Which options would you choose from the drop down lists to report a person trading as a business then? They don't make it easy to do!

    Drop down lists?!

I just used the contact us facility.

personally i cant see why people have to 'shop' people in...leave it to ebay to deal with.

if someone is making abit of money so be it... good on them!

the tax man takes enough from a working person as it is...

also i see sellers with ebay shops but it doesnt say they registered business sellers.. is this possible? surely if u got an ebay shop then u r a buisness?!!

Maybe the point being that if EVERY working person was honest about their earning including the people using eBay as a business, then the rest of us wouldn't bear the burden of paying their share.

As a working person with both PAYE and business accounts I resent paying someone elses share for them as well, it's bad enough paying my own share as it is.

Unless the person's working on ebay and not declaring it.

Private-businesses are breaking the law, plain and simple. The sooner they start paying the tax they should, the better as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with you about the shops thing though, why do you need a shop if you're just emptying your loft? If ebay had sense they'd also restrict the number of BiNs a private seller can have live at any time.

Wasn't there talk at one point of shops being restricted to business sellers only? or was it just something i picked up on one of the rumour type sites?

I also like the idea of number restrictions for private sellers, although I assume that many will just open several accounts in the same name to get round it.

I can understand that. I've never done much other than business sales on Ebay but I have sold a lot of personal CDs and DVDs on Amazon so could understand how if selling them on Ebay you'd want the extra shop categories and one place to see them that Ebay shops offer. They could differentiate between business and private sellers more though. Some gimmick like a shop for business and a stall for private would work.

There is one category I sell in where a 'private' seller has flooded it with lots of 99p listings, I know that they aren't a personal seller as he could have only possibly purchased the items to resell, so listings like that could be easily sorted. So it isn't just the tax issues that have a bearing, if a seller is affecting my sales by breaking rules then I'm more likely to report them.

I've spoted private sellers selling the same items as me and i'm talking 'quantity 10' and getting away with being private! It annoys me because why should i have to register as a business and display my flippin home address and they can get away with it and more than likely not inform hmrc either. I haven't reported anyone yet as i'm of the opinion that maybe they are in the middle of upgrading hmm i might change my mind though if i keep spotting them.
I did report the git who coppied my listing word for word and was also clearly a business claiming to be private!

Yes, I think the 100 listings way sounds much better to me - it avoids any misunderstandings - well, I've appealed against it - asking for exemption - so we'll see what happens. It's very hard when you've got a lot of cheap (99p) stuff to get shot of!

I don't want to be lumbered with an Ebay business account as I mainly only list for free and paying to list items that would probably only sell for 99p or not at all, wouldn't be worth it!
Plus I'm assuming I would have to get a second Paypal account as well?
Your account was flagged because of all the 99p listings. ie, you do not generate any listing revenue for Ebay. They feel that you have your fair share of free listings, perhaps much more than others. Thats why you need to register.
They don't care if you are or are not a business. According to Ebays rules, all those 99p listings...and there has to be a lot = Business.

If Mrs.Money does not intending to make a profit and is not buying items deliberately to sell them on, she is not a business at all. If there is any evidence you can think of which should easily prove this then may be write to them. There should be an address somewhere on the site to write to although I have not looked into this before.
Rubbish. I could name 100 businesses that have not made any profit in the last year. They are still businesses though.
