How do I know if anyone is trying to hack to gain access to my router? I am assuming it would show in the log in the router settings?

IF so, what kind of information should I be looking for.

All it states is something about sync time, and whenever I log in also states authentation fails whatever that means

Thank you.
Regards,

Limited my LAN IP addresses, WPA-PSK encryption, MAC filtering, software firewall and anti virus, and netgears own firewall changed my router password

It would show in the log. And with that much security for a home network, you won't be hacked. :)

Well as long as you have used a 64 bit random hex encryption key, there is not much more you can do. Some recommend disabling SSID broadcast but it does not make it any more secure and others may set up a network on the channel that you have chosen.

Forgot to say yes I disabled the SSID, one other question:

Using Netgear adapter WG111 v2 when i installed this software, when it scanned it listed 2 other networks in the neighbourhood, i guess they havent disabled their SSID for this to show? correct? anyway also it displayed their channel number they use wep and also their mac address. is that right?

    Thanks

No experience of WG111 software but your assumptions sound correct. Even when SSID broadcast is disabled, it can still be seen by various other software like Netstumbler etc.

have you disabled web administration, under remote management, if not remove the tick. If you have a good long random encryption key, then the neighbours shouldn't get near it, which leaves you putting the wrong password in, or web attacking the remote admin.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

When does the authentication failure come up, as soon as you goto 192.168.1.0, if so, then that is you putting the wrong (or having the wrong saved) password.
