I think if I were in your position, I would be contacting the insurance company to point out that you should have your CD player removed if you want it, unless they are willing to pay for a replacement even if you just take someone along to remove it. At the end of the day it belongs to you.

Good point - going to ask my brother if he can get it out tomorrow

Where can I buy a perfectly running car for that price? I

    .........

Apparently I get to keep the courtesy car for a week after I receive the cheque so gives me a little bit of time to find something else. Off to have a whinge (I can hear you all laughing at how attached I am to my little Rover 100 LOL)

Get another R100 then! Cracking little cars and £500 really is TOP whack for one (I currently have a 114GTA that I picked up for £275 with 12 month MOT) check out www.mg-rover.org as theres normally one or two in the for sale section :D

Reminds me a of a scene from Cheaper by the Dozen after the kids have tormented their sisters boyfriend and Steve Martin says something like "Funny ................. but wrong!" :rotfl:

Don't know why but the car repair company wouldn't entertain me syphoning petrol out of car (yet I don't think they are going to scrap it with a full tank of petrol!) and when I asked if they could remove the £50 CD player and £30 speakers, they said they couldn't do that as they may damage car!!!!!! I don't think they could make it any worse ...................

They have to empty the tank to scrap the car, then they flog the petrol on or run their cars on it.
They remove the cd/radio and speakers, and then flog them on on ebay.

Tell them you want to remove you personal items, then take out the radio yourself when you do.

Just had a quick look on autotrader nationally, they seem to have 100s from £400 N/R/R reg but there are quite a few 106s on there around the £500 mark, ditto Fiat Puntos and a couple of nice seicentos.

my car was written off a few years back and some time later, in an idle moment, I enquired on the DVLA database using the registration number only to find it had been re-taxed and used for another year.

If you want to try it yourself....

Well, I never knew that - I will definitely keep an eye on that

Oh an update on accident - the husband is now claiming that his wife did stop after the accident and did knock but I must not have heard her (not what the neighbour across the road said or what her Dad said when he called to the house 10 minutes after the accident or what she actually said to me yesterday) - it just makes me soooooooo mad

I would really appreciate some advice as I am getting conflicting information - a neighbour crashed into my parked car (she failed to stop at give way, mounted pavement and smashed into passenger side bonnet, headlight, front panel and door but carried on driving). I was unaware of crash as I was in the back of the house but 10 minutes after accident her father came and informed me of damage. He said she was so embarrassed and shocked and because she had kids in the car she just carried on driving. He said she is a new driver and was actually trying to stop stuff falling off dashboard hence reason for not slowing down and then not stopping.

So a week later I have still not received an apology from her (this is unrelated to question I want to ask but I am so annoyed that she didn't have the good manners to apologise especially now when I have chance to calm down - I really wasn't happy at the time) but I have friends telling me I should have reported her to the police and that I can get into trouble for not reporting the fact that she left the scene of the accident - is that right? I told the insurance company that she left the scene but they didn't advise me to contact the police. What should I do?
But in this case it makes sod all difference to the op?????

Details where provided and have not affected the ongoing situation.

Yes the OP could be vindictive and attempt to get the girl prossecuted, he would fail, but he is simply faced with the situation of what is the true value of his car ???

With all due respect, whether or not 'in this case it makes sod all difference to the op?????' is not the issue.

If you care to re-read bezzzas' original post you will see that she (yes, 'he' is in fact a 'she') posed specific questions which had not hitherto been addressed in subsequent responses.

My post was a factual reply to her query insofar as it relates to the law governing road traffic accidents.
Nowhere in my post have I expressly stated or implied that the OP reports the matter to the police.

ps - similarities in our respective signatures are purely coincidental.

It is to the OP, she, and "with all due respect", she only mentioned this in a later post, merely wished to know if she had to report this to the police to protect herself. She doesn't as we have both now said. In that light it does make "sod all difference to the OP", as the insurers have the details and the claim will proceed as normal. A little less pedantic content and and the intent to actually help the op rather state what the other party should or should not have done would have been more helpful.

I prefer my signature, it leaves nothing to interpretation, but a may slip the word pedantic in there from now on, :kisses3:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
