Glad someone does - I've had 1 and it was the most hateful thing (even the hillman imp in purple was better).

I'm sure that for every bag of nails there are good ones.

Obviously you might be location restricted but there are about 20 or so available (in varying degrees of wishful thinking).

I've owned 3 metros in varying states (my first one had a terrible flat spot in 1st and 2nd gear but I loved it all the same, my second one ran and ran until it was hit by an HGV 3 years ago (HGV driver admitted full responsibility there and then!) and now this one which was perfect - started first time each and every day even in a foot of snow. Wonder what the next one will be like? :rotfl:

Good result Bezzza pleased for you, may i suggest you try a Pug 106 (Zest3, power steering and central locking etc) when looking for a replacement, nimble small and good visibility like your old car, good little motor with few vices.

Never thought of a 106 - like you say they are small and dinky like the metro (and power steering too - thats the bad thing about the metros I've owned but it built up my muscles LOL) - going to have lots of fun test driving - maybe it was a blessing in disguise (certainly didn't feel like it a couple of hours ago) as I get to widen my horizons on what to drive next

Thanks to everyone for offering advice and taking the time to look at autotrader and make suggestions - it's really appreciated

    Are the kids ok?

Funnily enough I have just spoken to the girl who crashed into my car and asked about the kids - she said they're fine. I think I see why you're asking as it will have been the passenger side of her car that hit mine and that's where one of them may have been sitting.

the police can be invoplved when my friends car was in an accident she left a note which must have blown away someone reported her as they saw it and the police came round a week later to ask why she didnt stop

to which she said she did but luckily the police believed her-said to make sure she actually waited by the car next time till the owners came back! he said it was an offence to leave the scene of an accident so your neighbour could have been in a whiole load of trouble if they hadnt done anything

Getting back to the original point - the law is quite clear here.
The neighbour should have stopped after the accident & provided her details to anyone having reasonable cause to request them.
Ok, the OP wasn't around to request those details, but how was the neighbour to know that - there is no excuse for 'failing to stop'.
Having failed to stop, the neighbour was then under a legal obligation to report the accident to a police officer/at a police station as soon as practicable & in case within 24 hours. She has clearly failed to do this & thus committed a further offence.

There was no legal obligation on the OP to report the accident to the police.

But in this case it makes sod all difference to the op?????

Details where provided and have not affected the ongoing situation.

Yes the OP could be vindictive and attempt to get the girl prossecuted, he would fail, but he is simply faced with the situation of what is the true value of his car ???

PS OP, you should not have mentioned it was a rover, lost you the sympathy vote,, ;)

    No, don't, ;)

Reminds me a of a scene from Cheaper by the Dozen after the kids have tormented their sisters boyfriend and Steve Martin says something like "Funny ................. but wrong!" :rotfl:

Don't know why but the car repair company wouldn't entertain me syphoning petrol out of car (yet I don't think they are going to scrap it with a full tank of petrol!) and when I asked if they could remove the £50 CD player and £30 speakers, they said they couldn't do that as they may damage car!!!!!! I don't think they could make it any worse ...................

I think if I were in your position, I would be contacting the insurance company to point out that you should have your CD player removed if you want it, unless they are willing to pay for a replacement even if you just take someone along to remove it. At the end of the day it belongs to you.

Ah whats wrong with a Rover? As I ask the question I can hear everybody saying "what's right with a Rover?" :rotfl:

Don't know about anyone else but as I spent so much time travelling in my little car I became really quite attached to him - don't think it matters what make, how old or what it's worth in financial terms, it's what it means to you in the end - he was priceless (priceless I said, not worthless :rotfl:)
