It isnt possible really for any company to create the uninstall programs for all the diferent peices of software. usually they would innitiate the uninstall program for any other antivirus software but your problem is that parts of the old AV are missing so you need to remove them your self.

I told you the easy way of doing this by installing eTrust antivirus again then uninstall it. this will update the traces of the old stuff and remove any that are not required, the uninstall will remove them allowing you to install mcafee.

The other way is to search the registry for CA, compurer associates, etrust and anything else that could be part of it. when you find any result check to see what it is and if it is part of etrust antivirus if it it delete the entry also go find the file on your hard drive and if it is in a CA, computer associates, etrust folder remove the file if it is in windows, system or system32 leave it but make a note just incase you need to remove it.
***Editing the registry can cause huge problems and cause windows or other programs to stop working whihc is why I sugest using the other method***
Thanks little john for your reply but I couldn't download CA e Trust Anti virus for free they were looking for a payment .Do you know where to get it free? thanks shrewdal

I don't understand why you can't remove all traces using RegCleaner. It's not a magic wand but it will safely remove registry items or whole program installations and also create back-ups for you!
