I was looking into buying a Miele but decided it was too expensive but Bosch had very good reviews and was recommended by Which so I bought that on Friday from Appliancesonline.

hi guys, i havent had internet for a few days so havent been able to respond to all your suggestions, sorry about that.

    thank you all.

after weighing it all up, we have chosen a bosch. miele were working out to expensive for what they were compared to bosch. also, their 10 year guarantee isnt available in northern ireland which is where i live so we decided against that.

we looked at zanussi aswell and found that bosch had a larger drum and higher spin speed available for not much more money so we opted for that.

We have only had four in fifty years. Never had a problem with any of them. Except when a couple of bra underwires jammed one once.
I can afford anything that I want.

Our AEG has done 12 years, in that time it has only had a new door seal and that was last year.

Some John Lewis brands are rebadged AEG machines.

Trouble with that is; AEG is no longer AEG, it is now part of Electrolux.:(

We have had a miele for 8 years and it is still going strong, it may have cost a bit more than you average washing machine but money in my opinion it has been money well spent. I have also heard that bosch come highly recommended.

My Mum had a Phillips for 23 years and only required a door seal in all that time. Don't think Phillips make WMs any more.

  • Hi

I had similar problem so brought an aeg because it came with free 5 year warranty which replaces the machine if cant be fixed. I couldnt afford a meile and would have only brought it if they were offering the free 10 year warranty (which they dont in ni).

I would just choose good brand with a long as possible free warranty. John Lewis usually has good warranty on their machines

I am on my second zanussi. Had the first for over 12 years and the second is coming up to that now and is still fine. We are replacing our kitchen soon and are looking at CDA appliances - they are a good price and have 5 years parts and 1 year labour warranty.

I recently bought a Panasonic that came with a 5 year warranty. Its brilliant, big drum, massive door which opens wide and very quiet.

As a kid I remember my parents had a huge machine called a Thor. Not automatic with pedals to go from wash to spin etc. When the motor failed after 15 years I replaced it and it was still going another 12 yeas later when it was given away, may still be going.
I also remember someone had a very old twin tub, can't remember the make, you moved the motor with a big lever so it pressed on the wash or spin tubs.
They don't make them like that any more!
Most modern machine have small non replaceable bearings which are their weak point.
