and how long did it last?
my last two machines died at just two years old. i am getting lots of recommendations for miele but they are expensive and i would hate to invest so much money for it to die in 2 or 3 years. also, if i did go for miele, which one do i go for? are they all good?
please help. what machines have you had that you would recommend?

Hi, I think nowadays if you get five trouble free years from a washing machine you are doing well. From past experience I have had problems with Hoover and Hotpoint a but have been pleased with Tricity Bendix/Zanussi machines ( both part of Electrolux ) which have lasted for over 5 years. My current one is a 1600 spin Zanussi and was purchased online for £220.0

I have an AEG that is coming up to 10 years old. It has had a new motor paid for by the insurance but other than that it is still going strong. (fingers crossed)0

I have a Bosch. 15 years old and never broken down !!!! Still looks pretty good too !!!!!0

Ariston. Lasted 20 yrs. No repairs. Last year developed minor fault so decided to change as it owed me nothing. Ariston not what they were and wouldn't recommend one now. Replaced with Miele. 10 yr mfrs warranty and expecting at least 15 yrs from it. If it goes kaput after 10 yrs it works out at £75.00 p.a. All Miele supposed to be good. Choose the model that has the features you need.0

I've got a Bosch which we reckon is about 8 years old (its certainly more than 6 but not as old as 10) - couple of weeks ago it suddenly stopped so I took the back off stuck some new motor brushes in (£15 in a local shop because I wanted them there and then - £5+delivery off the internet) and its off again like new. With a bit of luck I might get another five years out of it as everything else looked like new and the bearings are still sound. It gets a fair old hammering with two small boys in the house!Adventure before Dementia!0

Our AEG has done 12 years, in that time it has only had a new door seal and that was last year.
Some John Lewis brands are rebadged AEG machines.0 -
we bought our first washing machine when we first moved in together about 6 years ago, it was a reconditioned hotpoint and lasted us up until feb last year, when we replaced it it only had a small fault which could still be used but me being me i wanted a bigger one i bought a 7kg hoover one and had nothing but problems and eventually got an exchange last xmas for a hotpoint aqualtis, a bit pricey at £450 ish but it has been excellent so far (touches wood! where does that saying even come from??) its an 8 kg one with many different washes and i love it! so much so that i even bought the matching tumble dryer!
hubby always says to go with a manufacturer who specialises in washing machines, if you know what i mean? ie dyson make hoovers - look at the probs they had when they made a washing machineCan you see the mountains through the fog?0
