Mercedes-Benz Park Royal - Lie and cheat you

Think there is some cross posting here - its PM who paid the Merc deposit and Sam1970 who got her deposit back.
My experience of Merc is such that I would not entertain buying a car from them again. Had a small accident and called my dealer to explain - they said to get AA to recover car to them and they would deal with it. After 4 days they called me to say that they could'nt find anything wrong with the car and it was starting fine..................I explained that it was in because the side had been stoved in - not because it wouldnt start...................they asked why it had been recovered to them as they had no body shop..................because you told me to have it recovered to you....oh.0 -
It is amazing, that some people think that a deposit should be refunded.
The deposit system is there to stop people messing around the person who is selling the goods. Once you have said that you have made your decision and placed a deposit, you have secured the goods until you pay the balance. The seller can no longer offer those goods to someone else, so if you then change your mind, the seller can recoup some of the costs for wasted time, possible loss of further sales.
I am not in the trade, but came across this when selling a car privately a couple of years ago. The prospective buyer loved the car, took it on a test drive, brought someone along to look at it, in the dry, bright sunshine, then gave me £500 deposit and said they would be back in two days with the balance of the cash.
They phoned up the next day, saying they had seen another car, and could they have their deposit back.
I said no, they were upset, but came to pay the balance and pick up the car the next day.
When they arrived, they then started to haggle on the price again. I simply told them to pay the full balance as agreed on the signed piece of paper, or go away without the car.
To be honest, I thought they were going to get quite nasty about it, but they simply sloped off with the car, leaving me with the agreed price.
That is how the deposit system works.
I think a trade sale would have a different criteria from a private one0
