Mercedes-Benz Park Royal - Lie and cheat you
Hi
I put down a deposit for a Merc at Mercedes-Benz Park Royal over weekend. The sales person told me I could cancel deposit and would be refunded; net day I found better deal at another branch of Merc whom again said same regarding deposit.
Today I phoned Mercedes-Benz Park Royal who lied and said I would lose my deposit; I had to ask rude person on phone 3 + times for number and finally gave it, it was only manager! He now said I must write to them to get my money back. Should they cause trouble my next point of call is my credit card company, I would never buy anything from this bunch of crooks again.

They are car dealers, what else do you expect :rotfl::rotfl:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Doesn’t sort of defeat the point of deposits if punters can get them back if they change their minds?
Surely you should do the shopping around before the deposit stage?0 -
nah, you got this wrong, its a merc dealer this is all you should expect, and don't expect the service to get any better when you go back for servicing and repairs.cyclonebri1 wrote: »They are car dealers, what else do you expect :rotfl::rotfl:...work permit granted!0 -

oh dear...i am expecting the same problem today with a ford dealer...they asked me last weekend to put a deposit in order to get the used car i wanted from another branch for me to test drive. they assured me verbally that the deposit is refundable if i dont like the car. I found better deals on line so I am expecting them to try to keep the deposit inspite of their assurances0

i would say you have a slightly different case in the event that they try to withhold any money you ask back. You haven't seen the car you put the deposit down on, so technically I guess you could claim Distance Selling Regulations are applicable.GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0 -

How would the distance selling rules apply if the person was in the dealership to pay the deposit, and the car was merely being brought from another branch of the same dealership?0 -
It is amazing, that some people think that a deposit should be refunded.
The deposit system is there to stop people messing around the person who is selling the goods. Once you have said that you have made your decision and placed a deposit, you have secured the goods until you pay the balance. The seller can no longer offer those goods to someone else, so if you then change your mind, the seller can recoup some of the costs for wasted time, possible loss of further sales.
I am not in the trade, but came across this when selling a car privately a couple of years ago. The prospective buyer loved the car, took it on a test drive, brought someone along to look at it, in the dry, bright sunshine, then gave me £500 deposit and said they would be back in two days with the balance of the cash.
They phoned up the next day, saying they had seen another car, and could they have their deposit back.
I said no, they were upset, but came to pay the balance and pick up the car the next day.
When they arrived, they then started to haggle on the price again. I simply told them to pay the full balance as agreed on the signed piece of paper, or go away without the car.
To be honest, I thought they were going to get quite nasty about it, but they simply sloped off with the car, leaving me with the agreed price.
That is how the deposit system works.0 -

Don't tell them you've found one elsewhere, just tell them you don't like the car. Say it feels funny to drive etc. They cant "make" you buy something that you dont like.0 -
That's all well and good, I think the issue here is lying salesmen saying whatever just to get the sale rather than people thinking they can get their deposits back.It is amazing, that some people think that a deposit should be refunded.
