Potato planters- any ideas?
I must have bought too many seed potatoes i think and as they are chitting away nicely i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get cheap potato planters. I have 4 of the large green sack type planters to use and have been looking at the individual ones but they do seem a bit expensive.
Does anyone know where i can get cheap planters or what i can utilise as a planter please.
Any help/tips much appreciated

I've bought too many seed potatoes too. Apart from the potato planters i'm going to use old compost bags (turned inside out), and also in our local home bargains they sell a pack of 3 recycling bags for £2.50 (like the ones the council supply for newspapers), just got to put drainage holes in the bottom. Basically anything that is quite deep and has drainage can be used0

I have bought some of the bags for life out of Morrisons, the big ones are about 39p, and have put some seeded potatoes in them. They are quite deep. The smaller ones are ok for smaller veg or salad that don't need the depth.0

Try plastic rubble sacks, with a few holes for drainage in the bottom.0

Poundland are still selling their collapsible green garden waste bins. I used those successfully last year and will be using even more this year."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Hi Last year we got hold of some old tyres, painted the outsides white, planted the potatoes in one tyre and then when we added more soil to cover (sorry forgot technical term!) added another tyre on top for the extra height. Worked fantastically well and was easy to get at potatoes when ready. Will be doing the same again this year but with an extra few tyres in the row!"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"

I've used empty compost bags successfully to grow potatoes for the last few years. As previously said turn them inside out,and make drainage holes. Then roll the bags down until only a few [9 or so], inches high. Put in some compost and add potatoes - I usually put in 4 or 5 spaced out but some people use less for each sack.
As the green shoots come up, add more compost to earth them up and gradually unroll the bag, repeat this until bag is fully unrolled - enjoy :j0 -
Thanks for all the tips folks:j
Will try a variety of ways i think and see what gives best results.
Had a look on idealworld website for the planters and they were roughly £26  so might give them a miss0
