Yep agree not perfect. I guess the last resort is threatening physical violence :rotfl:

To be honest it's not my kids use I am worried about. Its the risk of one of their "mates " getting hold of their phone or if its stolen. Am I being a bit too paranoid.

The discussion here seems to say the operators aren't doing enough to help. I wonder why........

The reason operators aren't doing much is because the billing systems aren't live, so if I make a call today, it may not show up on my online bill for a few days, therefore, they obv cant enforce a credit limit.

The case is more compelling when you consider that if the phone was stolen and used, this wouldn't be a long term use.
    I agree it sucks.

oh and not sure how much your talkplan is, but you mentioned that its 200 minutes and unlmtd texts, which is usually £25 on orange with phone (18 month).

E2save are doing a £10 discount on the £35 month tariffs, so you'd get 600 mins, unlmtd texts for £25 pm

Or they used to, found it's not live billing, got roasted on Watchdog for not being able to do it well, either not cutting off at the right time, or not letting someone make a call whne they had to, and probably just discontinued the service.

I suspect it's more that than the live billing. PAYG cuts you off if you run out of credit, so it's possible, I suspect it's a PR disaster waiting to happen they are seeking to avoid.

Tru dat, never tohught of it like that. How do they differentiate? Seperate systems altogether would be uneconomical, not to mention the bad pr for all those extra masts...

    Are we being BS'd?

With the way things are going, I can see PAYG being the way to go, I will never sign up for a 24 month contract, and I'll certainly never touch a 36 month contract.

People want more elaborate phones, they cost more and the Mobileco's have to get that back. The EU stopped the expensive roaning fee's and we started to get long contracts, coincidence maybe, who knows.

If people were happy with a Nokia 3310 we'd still have cheap contrcts, but people want smartphones and they cost a lot more to buy so theymobile co's eed to have a lock in to get the cost back.

I disagree, there's a saying in tech, goes something like, every two years technology either halfs in size or doubles in power

Cost is relative to the most advanced tech of the time, for example the most expensive phones have and (as far as I can remember, correct me if I'm wrong :)) probably always will be in the £400-£500 range, not sure about iPhone, but lets exclude that as generally the contracts on that aren't as flexible.

The cost probably has increased a little, but certainly not enough to require 36 month contracts.....

Granted, since the good old days, we have moved on with high speed internet and mms on phones etc, so that increases costs, as long as 18 month contracts stay in the £30 - £35 range, I'll be happy.
  • also the phones you get on 36 month deals are the bog standard ones and they're low price plans aimed at light users (speaking about Orange's 36 month deals, don't know of others)

It is only £10 a month on a SIM only - she already has a phone that my husband didn't want when he took an orange contract:beer:
With the amount of time it is taking to come - she will never spend anything on it lol - think it is due today if I remember rightly - unsure if it comes by courier though as it didn't come in the 'normal' post.
