With Orange that will stop any outgoing calls if you use up all of your minutes? It would be on a SIM only plan for my daughter? She has said that her friend has a bar on hers, (not sure what provider) but I am not sure what it entails. Can't seem to find anything on Google.
Thanks

    Nothing on Orange contract.
Payg would be an option, just top her up with £X each month, when it's gone that's it. She'll still be able to receive calls even if she's no credit.

There are threads on here about once a week where a child has gone £100's over on a contract on in their parents name. . .

 I DO trust her not to do that, it's just that she will need to keep a close eye on the balance:rotfl:. It just would have been easier if there was something like that available with orange. She will have 200 mins & unlimited txts every month so that should cover her.

Oh & she is on PAYG at the moment - she can have 4 x the minutes on a £10 pm SIM only plan, than what she does by topping up £10 on PAYG.

Three can let you set a credit limit of £0 which is effectively what you are looking for - not sure about Orange but at least you know what to ask for if you phone them up now.

Thanks, but I had already ordered the Orange one as she is already on Orange - have got a 3 sim zero here, but TBH that seems worse, as it seems you are charged for calls at the PAYG rate, & then end up with a bill at the end of the month for what you have used  At least this way she is getting more minutes for the money. I wasn't even bothered until she mentioned her friend had this on her mobile.
    Thanks for the replies anyway:beer:.

Ah - maybe that is what her friend is on then - will have to ask her if she knows who she is with.
    Thanks:beer:

I have a couple of pay monthly contracts for my kids. I called 3 and asked for a zero credit limit and they did it immediately. This also stops any calls to those criminal "ring tone etc" services as they are not part of the inclusive minutes.
I called Virgin and the lowest they would set my credit limit was £50 and they are apparently unable to bar premium rate sms services. What utter tosh, they just want the door open for extra revenue.
Guess where I will be moving my service soon.
Not sure if any of the other operators will allow a zero credit limit but 3 were very helpful.

Only problem is billing is not always real time. If they roam onto Orange can they make a chargable call? Your kids could go to France, run up a bill and the first you know about it is when the bill hits your door. All a zero credit limit means is no credit, you can go into debt you'll just have to pay it back immediatly before they cut you off for going over the limit.

The answer is to manage use, not rely on a credit limit that may be breached.

Hmm, my kids don't pop over to France very often. So far it has worked fine. £10 per month and no more. When they use up their free minutes and texts, no service until next months allowance kicks in. I'm sure it's not a complete solution but seems to be the best option with kids.

Fair enough, the point remains billing is not in real time, it's not impossible to exceed the allowance but in most cases it will work. However consider the fact your kids may run out of credit and they can't phone you regardless of the situation.

Not ideal but works for you, however three Specifically say this is not to be used for budgetting and do not guarantee you won't get a big bill. I suppose the kids could also phone up and ask for a larger limit if they thought about it...
