That's not the only reason at all. I'm quite happy with the car I purchased from Japan without inspecting it myself, but that was from a proper used car dealer and with an experienced import agent acting on my behalf with proper documentation checks done in advance. The posts in this thread are pure scams though. There is no reason to be buying a UK spec car from Spain.

The link to Yahoo works and the website is convincing, however if you go to Yahoo's website and try to find this service the long way round it's not there.

I then searched for yahoo finance and found this forum. Thanks to all that's posted, you've saved me losing some money.

I will be contacting Autotrader vans to let them know about the ad.

Might want to edit out the reg and VIN number. There's a good chance those are genuine and belong to someone completely unrelated to this scam.

Hi, just to let everybody know the scam is still up and running, I saw an advert for a VW camper van on Auto Trader...seemed to good to be true, emailed for some more information, received a response and started to smell a Spanish Rat.
Put the VIN WV1ZZZ7HZ6H109910 number into Google and up come MoneySavingExpert with other peoples encounters.
I just hope others are as cautious !
So as they say If it looks too good to be true it probably is KEEP AWAY.

Did you clock this scam back in March 2010 ? for I see it is still about albeit intermitantly on the Van Trader site and seems to be no where else. Have asked Van Trader to consider promptly carrying out three simple automatic filters on all adverts:

1 Reference to false escrow names such as "yahoo finance"
2 Use there own "Is it valued correctly" service
3 Check its history, reg and VIN for previous.

hi just had the same long winded living in cadiz reply for a vw transporter in van trader for £4000 another bargain no doubt!!
i have notified van trader i'll see how long it is before they take the ad down.
not the first time this site has helped me confirm suspicions
