gratefulforhelp wrote: »We are contracted for 1265 hours of directed time per year, unless on the leadership spine, when all bets are off. This is usually all used in parents evenings, meetings, and teaching time. It does not cover time for marking or preparation, except that we have 10% of timetabled time allocated to ppa (even the most efficient teacher will not achieve what they need to in ppa time). We always get bank holidays and otherwise our holidays are as determined by the LA as school holiday dates, less 5 training days (thanks Kenneth).
NASUWT website probably has more detail if you need it, terms and conditions governed by the "burgundy book" and "blue book".
Does that help? Custom is 39 weeks of the year, 13 weeks' holiday.
N.B. If considering messing with something as a governor, I would urge caution as teachers generally do way more that it appears on the surface, including presence in school in holidays/weekends, and if they stop, lots of things beneficial to kids may go t*ts up!
Thanks - it's not to do with being a governor. It's for work, with a discussion as to what counts as full time/part time (why they can't use accounting conventions for calculating full time equivalent I don't know). Full time is normally 47 weeks a year, so approx 2000 hours (but even the germans, who have very strict legislation on this don't seem to work that little!)l
I'd assume that Higher Education institutions may well be different as universities seem to function all year round (after all, they do other stuff, like research) and not just during the students' term time.
I have come to the conclusion that the working outside contracted hours is more to do with personality than with roles/jobs. Some people work the hours they're paid for and can then forget about work and walk away. Others get the job done rather than doing the hours.
thanks for the help!0 -
greenbee - i agree to some extent but not completely. I purposely moved to a 9-5 job from an all hours working from home one, and although I do sometimes think/worry/lose sleep over work stuff at night I have to say I pretty much walk away. In my old job I was never off duty and couldn't forget about it.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

List for tomorrow is up..
Tabitha in hospital on life support
DD1 gone missing
I really really hate being alive this week
Pigpen - hope you're OK :Aand shall discard the broken pair unless someone knows where they can be recycled (lenses ok it's a broken arm)
I broke an arm on a pair of specs, and a friendly optician fround me an old frame, and used the arms from that to repair mine :j Cost about £5 :j
Just back from sharing tea and Birthday Cake with some friends. Off to find my list, feed DS before he's off to footie training, then out to choir. I've slathered foundation over my *shiner* so it looks less

Managed to get loads done yesterday while my sister and BIL where up. Two pipes when yesterday and the bathroom got soaked abit. One from the bath that wasn't tightened enough and the rad started as well, both fixed now.:D
Still have loads to do before hubby gets home. He did come home for a few hours today and is now on his way back to the house.
Doors have now been picked and should be here tomorrow, so that should be done next week. I can't wait to get them on as the doors at the minute don't close right.
Need to keep going with the washing now and make a start tonight going through all the cd's (there's loads). Kids all at clubs tonight and Mr T coming between 9-11 hopefully he'll be here early.
Pigpen oh flip me, i'm glad DD turned up and i'll be thinking of Tabitha.
