Manhole BLOCKED!!! what should I do???

    Nope it depends on when the houses were built.

    If the house was build before 1937 then it's the water companies problem and you pay absolutely nothing, if they were built after that they will bill you and all your neighbours depending on where the fault is.

    It's not a shared drain, its mine.

    The drains and any private sewers which carry household waste are normally the householder's (or the landlord's) responsibility. This applies whether they are within the property boundary or beyond the property boundary and up to the point they connect with the public sewers.

    I Phoned the insurance company today and they said they would send someone out just to look at it before they made a decision whether I could claim.

    Two lovely men arrived and rodded it and it's fine, it had a brick stuck in it!!

    And to top it all......there was no charge!!!!!!!

    Not even had to make a claim on insurance so no excess to pay :)

    Yes it had just fell in from the rim of the manhole cover, it's been removed and we will fix it at weekend x
