    about 30 online, short listed to 3 that met my requirements, viewed them all once, placed low bids on them all, bought the one that accepted :beer:

    cant see why you need to see a house more than once to see if it meets your requirements unless your planning extensive redevelopment.

    The first property I viewed ticked all my boxes but I wanted something to compare it against. I looked at another three houses but none of them came close so I offered on the first property. The seller would later pull out. I then viewed another five properties before seeing the one I eventually bought.

    That could also be the agents fault, not just the buyer's.

    I phoned up one agent where the property I was interested in had gone but they told me another I might be interested in. I went through my requirements with the agent (which included two double bedrooms) and it sounded as if it ticked all my boxes so I arranged a viewing. When I got there I found out the second bedroom was only a single.

    I would ALWAYS view at least twice because:

    • its alot of money to spend based on a only seeing something once,
    • you've had time to think about it and make a list of things to check,
    • you can use the 2nd viewing to go looking for the things that you may have missed 1st time round in the haze of excitement,
    • you can take someone with you who has a fresh pair of eyes and isnt biased or "in love" with it.

  • Hundreds online but actually physically viewed 45 houses before we bought. This is in the space of 10 months.

    I viewed 4 and put offers in on 3 of them, but were outbid on the first 2.

    When we sold our house we put it up for sale on Friday, had a call from the estate agents that afternoon booking a viewing on the Monday evening. We had an offer in from them on Tuesday morning (which we accepted). Couldn't believe it was that quick!

    We sold our house in 2005, probably went to view about half a dozen houses back then and made offers on two of these which didn't work out. Since we couldn't find anything we liked enough to buy at the time and renting was so much cheaper, we ended up renting a larger house instead. In the meantime we managed to save/build up more capital, and from late 2007 we started looking seriously again - renting became costly at this point as our savings were hardly earning any interest.

    We've looked at pretty much everything online in our price bracket in the area we want to live in, but there wasn't actually that much to choose from. Over about 18 months we went to view perhaps 10 houses and made "cheeky" offers on 3 or 4, which were turned down. The most unrealistic vendors are still on the market now!

    We'd kept our eyes on this house online for a while, went to see it when the asking price was reduced and fell in love with it. Made an offer after the 2nd viewing, which was refused. I was gutted when they accepted a higher offer from someone else, but DH kept telling me to keep my nerve as most houses in this price range that went "under offer" ended up coming back on the market again a few months later. He was right, it did, and at this point the vendors were desperate not to lose the house that they were now buying. They accepted our renewed offer and stuck with us even though they got 3 higher offers. We exchanged within 3 weeks and are finally settled in our dream house - the wait was worth it :j

    600 online...viewed two that where sensibly priced and value for money with a realistic seller and offered on one..i never let my wife near the house until the deal was done as my wife cannot buy with her head but somehow falls in love with a pile of bricks. by doing that i saved a lot of money..she wanted to pay asking price just in case ect ect ect
    It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
    Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
    If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
    If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
    If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

    Just the 2. We knew the area we wanted and type of house. Walked in and it just felt right- like a home.

    We must have seen at least 20 in 1 week. We sold our flat on 1st viewing and couldn't find anywhere we liked (after we'd seen about 5). DH talked me into buying one I didn't like at all. 8 weeks later the seller had vanished, I rang her EA and asked what to do. They advised me to start looking at other houses and set up block viewings on a load of their houses. I also phoned all the other EAs in our town and asked them to email me details of any in our price range.
    One agent sent me details for one I'd driven past and discounted as too small. When I read about it I phoned DH and told him I was going to view it because it wasn't possible to be so small outside and so big inside. Went in with the kids and fell in love. Viewed again the next day and offered our max (below asking price) a couple of hours later. This was on the advice of the original sellers EA as they said we wouldn't get a house up there for that money.
    Been here 5 years nearly and nearly finished it. Still love it. Thank my lucky stars that the first woman vanished or we'd never even have viewed it!
