We bought this house before the internet so all you had were estate agent brochures with usually no pictures so we had to view to see if it was what we wanted.
We were looking for a house for about a year, looked at probably 10 houses a month but when we walked in here it felt like home, it also ticked all my must have boxes and was in the area I wanted. It took just five weeks from first view to owning it and I can't see any reason I would move anywhere else.0 -
I know people who a day out of a Sunday is viewing houses.
And they've got no interest in moving, they're just nosey.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Waded through about 20 online, most of which were unsuitable unless I wanted drugs prostitutes and mayhem on my doorstep. Set up viewings for six (one estate agent confused me with my landlord (!!!) and turned up at his home rather than the flat for sale)
The most expensive flat (85K) was right out of my price range and was a half hearted addition to this really flash flat the agent was banging on about, really trying to sell it to me, took me to see it and a) the vendor dropped the price that day by 5K, b) it blew us both away and c) I got it for £75K in the end

We looked at loads online, we viewed maybe 20-30 in all.
We let one get away, deciding to go on holiday and have think about it. Was gutted at the time as the offer he accepted was what we were toying with offering but were worried it was a bit cheeky at £25k under asking. Luckily we got our current house instead a year later, its almost identical but on a bigger plot and cost 40k less than what the other went for.
You'll probably know if its "the one" the minute you walk through the door.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Shortlisted about 40 online, put them into order of preference and made appointments to view the first two. We put an offer in on the second one which was accepted and we are now 4 weeks into the conveyancing process on it

I still have the remaining 38 saved just in case this one falls through though!0 -
Aside from passively looking at hundreds online over a period of 2-3 years and doing a couple of showflat viewings in the name of "research", when the search became serious I went straight to a development that ticked all the boxes and more or less decided then and there that I wanted to live there. I went and viewed 4 other similar properties in the area just to make sure that I wasn't "blinded" by my first choice but those viewings just confirmed to me that my first choice was the best option and a good price. Hopefully moving in (touch wood) in early April.
Whatever you do, don't get disheartened if you view a lot of places and don't find something you want. I almost bought a place back in the beginning of 2007 in the name of "getting a foot on the property ladder". If I had, I'd be sitting in negative equity in an apartment (I realise in hindsight) which was an overpriced compromise. At least with a place you love and can see yourself in long term, it matters less what happens to prices in the short term.0
