Ideas For Salad Box To Cut Back On Lunch Money Spent

Does anyone know where to get good quality salad boxes or sandwich weges from?

I ve had a look on ebay and they all seem a bit tacky. I dont earn much but feel quite emarrased bringing in sandwiches to work. If I could get a stack of pret salad boxes then I would definitely not feel bad bringing that in...

Does anyone know if it is possible buying disposable food containers which are labelled with popular retailer names>

I ve tried making salad in the morning and taking that with me to stop me spending £5 at work...

    The problems are

    1) They are never filling so I rarely eat them
    2) They always have liquid at the bottom which spills out of my bag causing a mess.

Does anyone have any good ideas for a salad box which would be non messy and filling?

I also need to lose weight :-)
  • i make a batch of boiled rice up at the begin of the week, add to that, tuna sweetcorn, beetroot, grated carrot peas and extra light mayonnaise and hey presto, you can also do that with pasta, not expensive and very delish

its VERY fashionable to bring your own lunch
    more so now than ever

and, are you not going to feel a bit weird when you are eating and someone says "oh that looks lovely, what shall i ask for in pret to get that?"

just get a proper lunch box, no one will bat an eye lid
they will be more interested in what yummys you have today than what box its in

Rice salad and pasta salad is nice if you use some coronation mayo sometimes, just for a change.:j
Nice with finely diced green peppers and sweetcorn.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

I take my own sandwiches when I work or go to meetings, at least I know no ones spat on them. And since my husband bought one with no margerine in it he makes his own too! He likes more filling than the bought ones give.

Rice and pasta salads are much more filling and you can add there almost anything what you have in the fridge

Why? There's nothing wrong with it. I suspect most people won't care and those that do care will be interested in what you have for lunch, not what kind of box you put it in.

Disposable sandwich boxes are not very "MSE", nor are they very "green". If anyone asks why you're bringing sandwiches into work and you're embarrassed to say that its because you don't earn much, just say that you do it because you're always guaranteed to like the way the meal is prepared when you've made it yourself. It'll be true, too.

If you haven't got a microwave at work, you might look at the thermos flask type things for food, they're stockier than the usual flask. Even if you don't put heated food in it at least it would be leakproof. Maybe you could line the bottom of your salad box with sliced jacket potato or something to absorb liquid ( salad dressing?). We have some leak proof plastic boxes, the expensive clip lock ones work, or wrap cling film round it. Yesterday's surplus evening food is often nice for the next day's lunch. Well drained tinned sweetcorn, or mixed beans, or cooked cold frozen peas are cheap additions to a salad.
  • Keep the dressing in a little screw top bottle and add just before you eat.
