Ideas For Salad Box To Cut Back On Lunch Money Spent

There are some great retro lunch boxes on ebay - old fashion domed tin ones through to kitsch lego bricks and slices of bread - nothing to be embarrassed about, and not all tacky (would love an excuse to use one - but being a SAHM I don't get the chance).
Or how about a bento box - very chic, and once you get the hang of packing them, some can be works of art.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
You feel embarrased bringing in sandwiches to work, why, what doe's everyone else take they're lunch in, i take my lunch in a box and everyone else uses the same idea if they bring they're own lunch, o one feels embarrassed about.0

Where do you work?
Our fridge is crammed full of lunchboxes where people make their own salads, sandwiches, soup, last nights cottage pie, chilli etc., and all sorts of odd left overs.
Start a trend, I am sure others will follow..... In the summer I take in salad and plate it all up. Other people look at my nice plated salad with envy. Beats the pre packed sandwich hands down.
Only annoying thing at work is when they put my cans of coke in the bin because they are 'out of date'. They are cans for goodness sake, it's not like they are going to kill me or contaminate the fridge.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
As others have said add things like pasta, rice or potatoes to your salad to fill you up. I also like adding beans (red kidney/butter/chickpeas/flagolet etc), hard boiled eggs, couscous.
With the watery thing, do you make the salad the night before? I do and then drain the liquid off in the morning before taking it to work. And always wrap in a plastic bag just in case of spillage!

Taking lunch in is the best. I used to do it all the time, and everyone used to share which was good too
Most people bring in their lunch. If anyone asks you why say you like to know what goes in your food. Why not just a plain plastic tupperware tub? Noone will laugh at that.

Don't be embarrassed! - as others have said, its very trendy to do your own lunch - in my view its a lot more crazy to go out and spend £5 or more every day on sandwiches and takeaway coffee like lots of my workmates. I take yoghurt, fruit salad, cheese, crackers or sarnies - anything likely to leak i put in plastic box with a rubber seal, the brand name one is Lock & Lock but they sell them in most of the supermarkets in various sizes and shapes - the ones with a blue rubber seal, they never leak. If you are trying to lose weight its easier if you take your lunch, as otherwise you get tempted to buy all sorts of stuff when you are hungry, whereas you can pack up a healthy lunch -i do mine the night before. Start saving, and don't worry what others think! good luck. ss.0

I think we must work in the same place, lol. I love seeing what everyone else has for lunch, and what they had for dinner the night before, I deliberately make too much so i,ve got some for work the next day.0 -
"quote I ve had a look on ebay and they all seem a bit tacky. I dont earn much but feel quite emarrased bringing in sandwiches to work. If I could get a stack of pret salad boxes then I would definitely not feel bad bringing that in...quote !"
I have to admit to liking a few more mins in bed rather than make sarnies BUT the times I do this I actually get more hassle for having "shop bought" than "home made". (Still don't get up that early but am more consicious etc!)0 -
I make my salads/sandwiches for work and i store them in things like this.

They never leak. Making lunches is very fashionable now.
I love pasta, tuna mayo with sweetcorn - cold, not hot. Or sometimes i bring in leftover dinner as we have a microwave at work. So things like spag bol, curry, sweet and sour are good to take and heat up - although they do stain the containers if you use them to heat the meals up!0 -
Does anyone know where to get good quality salad boxes or sandwich weges from?

Does anyone know if it is possible buying disposable food containers which are labelled with popular retailer names>
Good on you for saving money, see how embarassing having a card payment declined or the bailiffs knocking for the real deal! LOL.:rotfl:Keeping taking your butties and you may never find out.0
