Just been onto Orange web site, to get their number and they are doing new packages now. It appears their Max package for £30 a month includes the existing broadband plus free evening & weekend landline call & more importantly line rental. That's £90 a quarter whereas BT's cheaper package & Orange existing broadband would be £94 without any free calls. Have I got that right ?

BT's basic line rental package includes free weekend calls.
I don't quite follow your logic, as you said earlier that a £6pm (£72pa) saving was not worth bothering about. Now you're asking about a saving of £4 per qtr, or £16pa?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

BT has to allow any ADSL provider's broadband to be carried on its lines.

Hand over your line rental to any other provider and you're likely to be stuck with their broadband too.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

your cheapest broadband option is probably Plusnet Value at £11.99pm. This is a non-LLU service, 10GB cap. Quidco cashback available, first 3 months 2 £5.99.

The 10GB is not a 'hard' cap - If you go over they automatically add 2GB to that month and charge £2 extra. Also, usage between midnight and 8 am does not count towards your monthly 10GB.

But hurry - their prices go up £1/month from 12th April, but are frozen at current levels for 12 months for existing customers.
