No, what he said was that your line is not LLU (Local Loop Unbundled) for Sky, therefore the price for broadband is much higher than on an LLU exchange. It's what exchange you are on, not your distance from it, that matters in this respect.

So the £20 a month to Orange is the best I can do then ?

    Hello
My exchange is 01503. I went onto Samknows but all the exchanges said unknown. I have never heard of "LLU" before ? Thanks.

Strangely your area code is not recognised by samknows, but you are either on the Looe or Polperro exchanges?
Neither have any LLU providers, so your cheapest broadband option is probably Plusnet Value at £11.99pm. This is a non-LLU service, 10GB cap. Quidco cashback available, first 3 months 2 £5.99.

    No no no!
    See my follow up post.
There are dozens of providers who can give you broadband at around £14.99, Plusnet are £3 less.
    Avoid Orange like the plague.

How about Talk Talk for both, the comparison sites seem to like them ?

The comparison sites must get a good kick-back from Talk Talk then!

You have a BT line and that allows you to take your pick of any of the ADSL broadband providers in the market. The Internet Access forum will help you decide (bear in mind there are no LLU providers available) but, as a rule of thumb, you do get what you pay for.

Personally, I chickened out because I live in a small village (although, strangely, Talk Talk LLU is now available on my exchange), went for BT broadband as soon as it became available in 2006 and have stuck with that. I call them "to check when my contract is due to expire" each year and, for the past 2 years, have had BT Total Broadband Option 1 (10 Gb cap) for less than £7.50/month and £2/month off my landline rental as a result.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

TT are not going to be cheap on your exchange, as not available LLU. You cannot get the Essentials package at the headlined price of £6.99, only on LLU.
TT are cheap on LLU, but the service is dire-if they're not cheap then no point in using them.

Thanks I get the message then.

Frankly I have always been happy with Orange service. The speed is reasonable & unlimited so the saving of approx £6 per month is not that important. However I am obviously paying too much with BT, so will also stay with them but will change to the cheaper package. Thanks all , very much for your help and time

Then I suggest you call Orange and ask them to reduce their price to match the opposition-say £14.99 maximum. Otherwise say that you will have to take your business elsewhere.
