custom charges question

OK VAT plus possibly import duty (not usually that much so I will just round up to cover it) plus a clearance fee.
If possible get sent by the US Postal Service and not a courier they tend to think of a number and double it).
VAT is also supposed to be paid on the P+P element but is not always so to take a worst case scenario.
$245 = £160.
VAT= £28
Royal Mail Clearance Fee= £12
So your total will be less than £45 but you never know it might not get stopped.
Thank you so much, you are a star:beer:0 -

I'm working on the assumption these are natural lotions/creams and oil for the body. The TARIC codes for organic soap and body lotions (whether containing soap or not) are more or less the same and I am also assuming these are 'put up for sale', that is you are importing a finished product (bottle of body lotion) rather than the individual components (ie, you're not importing bottles of oils and then mixing them yourself).
If that is the case, the Duty is 4% of whatever the total cost of the goods plus P&P are. Then VAT at 17.5% will be added on top of that so :-
$245 total cost = about £160 (give or take exchange rates)
So £160 * 4% import duty = £6.40
So £160 + £6.40 = £166.40
add VAT at 17.5% onto £166.40 = £29.12
So total cost will be £160+£6.40+£29.12 = £195.52
Plus the Royal Mail handling charge of £8 to give a total cost of £203.52
Assuming HMRC stop the parcel, it could get waved through and so no duty/VAT is charged. Do you feel lucky?.
Hintza wasn't far off, so respect due!.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
