Amys wrote:MTC the price is a bit skewed as virgin 'give' you a 'free' car, so in relaity they are recouping the cost fo that in the price, also the fly drives are often cheaper than the flights only, so it is a matter of looking at the price as a whole, they can be expensive, but they can also do some craking deal, so it is the proce overall that needs to be looked at. For the under 25s the overall prce can be less. (BTW it is onlu about £2- £30 more than the fully inclusive package).
As you said, it does highlight the differences and the need to check details and shop around.
The price is a bit skewed as the Virgin site makes it quite difficult to get a direct comparison. You are right, they do give you a 'free' car, but its a basic car that goes with the number of people who are travelling - and it's also only free for the first week. So if your there for a fortnight, you get charged for the second week, if you want a better car you get charged extra
( a lot extra if it doesn't fit into Virgins computations, i.e. there are two of you and you want a luxury car) and the insurance adds quite a bit on as well ----but for some people (under 25's ????????????) it may still be worth considering.
First choice charge $25 per day for under 25's
Thomas Cook (via Alamo) $20 per day for under 25's

p.s. O_V, I'd be pretty pigged off with your travel agent about this. :mad:0 -
sorry huge thread and expect its been posted before, which websites are currently offering the best deals.
Tried quite a few but so far best deals are with
fifteen02.com
dollar.co.uk - now do packages
yescarhire.com
But still want to pay less than quoted, any other good sites out there0 -
Just got this back from my holiday agent, (she's very efficient and helpful actually)
hi
"just had a reply back from worldwide cars because you have had you licence for less than a year you have to pay 25 dollars a day locally
i suggest you surf the internet for other car hire companies just to see if anyone is any diff because we can cancel
this car no prob but as this is the only company we use i dont know if only having a licence for a short time is the same with them all"
I've cancelled it, back to square one!!It's always darkest before the dawn.

Seems I can't beat it either way. Most companies charge for under 25's $20-$25 a day and the one that doesn't (U-Save) found through MTC's link (cheers mate) requires that you have driven for at least a year!
D'OH!!It's always darkest before the dawn.

oh buggger, I've just got an email back from U-Save to confirm exactly that.
Most car hire companies want at least a year on your license, but Dollar don't - but they do want $25 a day from you.
The good news is that you CAN hire a car with your age/experience, the bad news is that it will cost you an extra £185ish to do so.
Personally, although its a bit of a bummer, I'd pay the price and enjoy my holiday, afterall, £185 between the two of you, within the entire cost of the holiday isn't really too bad (trying to be as positive as possible )

p.s. have you seen that Rovers have agreed a price with Brum for Dunny ?0 -
Yeah he was always coming home...I don't think he's the answer to our probs though its our good players we need to keep...
Yeah I'm thinking that looking like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet. The Mrs will have been driving 12 months but she is only 20 so we would have to pay extra there as well! It's always darkest before the dawn.

Just working things out its going to cost at least £400 for car hire now for the 15 days, not sure what to do, it seems A LOT of money...It's always darkest before the dawn.

How about doing a compromise ?
Be based at Orlando for one week and use buses etc for visits to the Disney places , and hire a car for the other week to tour and explore Florida. There you go, I've just saved you £200.00 :j
MTC
p.s. have you got your flight sorted yet ? or your accomodation ?0
