The £100 needs to be left in the a/c overnight (through their processing) to trigger the card.

  • I took the plunge and applied for the account last night - easiest application ever! It appeared on my online banking straight away. I transferred £100 via my Easycash account which I'll leave overnight tonight. I also transferred £300 from NatWest into Easycash and then transferred it to the Reward account and back 3 times to bring the total to £1000 :D

Some of us, myself included, have experienced problems with Halifax systems when we have carried out these types of instant transactions immediately after account opening.

Having transferred £1,000 into and back out from one of my Reward accounts, the following morning the Reward account was showing a balance of -£1,000.

It was sorted out after a call to support and a few hours, but something to be aware about.

I just looked online and it says I have been accepted for the account!

I wish Id have asked for a small overdraft now!!

I suppose if I applied for the overdraft online they would do another credit search, even though they have just done one to open the account?

They will probably have a pre-approved limit that they will be happy to give you. You can ask what this is in a branch or by phone.

Alternatively, just leave it a day or two, and it should sort itself out.

    Hi

Just opened an account. Everything went smoothly. I didn't bother with the overdraft or Reward Account (I already have a Halifax savings account).

Why didn't you bother with the Reward Account?

That's the one that pays you £5 a month!

    Hi

Just spoke to Halifax. I'll receive everything within 7 days.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the heads-up - I kept an eye out but luckily it didn't happen, balance was showing £100 this morning, the same as it was yesterday.

Perhaps because I transferred from an Easycash account rather than my non-Halifax account?
