Epson

I bought an Epson C86 printer in (approximately) November 2004 at a cost of £79.99 from PC World.
About 7 months later the unit broke down and I tried to return it to PC World for a replacement, was told to take it to an Epson Express centre, which I did and was told that my printer was a write off, and their only option was to issue a refurbished model, which I accepted.
Now the refurbished printer has developed a similar fault, the paper feeder takes in paper at a slight angle, causing printouts to be distorted (the first printer's paper feeder was what broke, but it was worse than this, wouldnt work at all)
Can I do anything about this, as the Sale of Goods Act states that goods must last a reasonable amount of time? (And TBH, for £80 I wouldnt call this a reasonable amount of time)
Thanks

If the printer was kaput, surely you knew you were entitled to a refund under normal conditions, dont understand why you accepted the substandard replacement.0

You could try contacting Trading Standards or Consumer Direct and they should be able to tell you what your rights are and support you should any problems arise!Weight Loss - 102lb0

At the time I didnt think they were obligated to give me a refund, just repair or replacement.
Realise I was wrong now, but it's too late seeing as I've had the refurb for about a year now0 -
Epson have done exactly as they are supposed to I'm afraid.
Afraid you have no chance of going any further. Would reccomend you get a HP next time. Epsons aint that good at all, people buy them because you can buy cheap cartridges for them. I'm an IT engineer by the way, I won't even install an Epson, thats how many problems I have had with them in the past.
Basically, if someone says 'can you install this for me' and it's an Epson or Lexmark I refuse. As you know full well, the printer, even though you only installed the thing is going to come back at you.
And yes, lots of people can;t install a printer and I seem to be the whole town's IT installation bloke! once you done it for someone, they pass your name on, thankfully I'm moving soon!0 -
I have to say that we have an Epson R300 at the moment - and touch wood it has been the best printer we have had - normally we have had HPs until they break. We paid around £80 for it - we wouldnt pay more as they seem to go out so quickly!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Looks like I'm going to have to fork out for another printer then

I could do with that kind of marketing, trying to start up offering web design for people to make some money and having great difficulty finding those first few clients that will spread the word if they are satisfied0 -
Hmm... I would have recommended Epson over HP everytime due to all the problems we have with our HP printers and non that we have had with our Epson ones.
As the original break down was after 6 months from purchase it was up to the retailor how they handle the fault out of replacement/ refund/ repair.
If the item has gone faulty again you simply need to take it back to the company you bought it from and request that they deal with it - but it is still their right to choose out of replacement/ refund / repair.
Given Epson give a full set of cartriges with each printer and the RRP for these appear to be in the region of £65 and you paid £80 for the printer with the cartriges effectively you only paid £15 for the printer itself (with my printer, it was cheaper to buy the printer with the cartriges than a complete set of original cartriges without the printer). They therefore may argue that nearly 2 years is a reasonable lifespan for what is effectively a £15 printer. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

1) My original warranty would now have expired, so I presume I have no official warranty cover with the refurbished printer?
2) Epson cartridges that come with the printer are nowhere near full, half full at best.
3) A full set of Genuine Epson carts is £30.
