A signwriter will have a large format inkjet printer that will do ginormous - they can print full photo art onto the curtainsides of lorries.

    Will cost a bit, though.

  • Thankyou very much for all your ideas! I have looked at bonus print and they do do very big canvases. I would have prefered a picture in a frame but my husband likes the idea of a canvas so I think we will go with that. If I download the picture I want, and use it through Bonusprint site, what sort of quality should I expect when it is blown up so big on the canvas? Is it likely to keep the colours or go grainy or patchy? A sunset is so beautiful and I wonder if on canvas would it show all the colours to their best. Thanks again.

You might have an issue with copyright if you find a picture online, but I suppose if you're just going to hang it in your house nobody will know.

Just find the biggest picture you can and call Bonusprint before you order to make sure the resolutio is high enough to be blown up extra large.

May be worth getting a cheaper slightly smaller poster print done with the photo you are doing to check it will blow up as you hope it will before you spend £100 or so?

There are quite a few companies online who will make enlargements for you, but the biggest concern is whether your digital negative can mach the size you wish to print. For example you wouldn't want to print at less than 200dpi and a 10mp camera will only really print to A3 size at 200dpi. So to go bigger you need to use some interpolerisation on the negative making to make it bigger so you can print bigger with less of a fall off in quality. There is some software out there that does it, the most common being photoshop or elements. Or probably the safest bet would be to get the company you would like to make the print to to the interpolarisation to mach the size of print you require.
Here's a few companies that do enlargements and i would enquire about whether they would interpolarise before sending the negative.

yes you will need a huge pixel photograph to enlarge to that size.

    12MP minimum.

a photo stolen off the net will not give a very good result when enlarged to that size.
    Get some gorm.
  • Gosh! I suppose niavely thought I would just download a picture. Hadnt thought of it as stealing! I dont want to do anything wrong, just didnt think.
    Thanks for your advice peeps.

The only problem with Ikea is that so many people have their stuff, I cringe when I see it hanging on someones wall ;o((
  • I have bought from xcanvas before, may be worth a look at their site as they have some fairly large prints. The one I bought was not framed so I bought a frame from a local art shop.

Sorry I can't post a link but a quick google search will find it.

    Hope this helps.
