Direct gov Rant!

Sorry but i'm about to have a rant, the new direct.gov jobcentre part is totally rubbish.

Not only are the searches for jobs rubbish, even the staff that you speak to when you call with a job reference number have agreed with me that lots of people are complaining its not as good as the jobcentre website was.

i check on there daily for jobs and apply for the suitable ones as they appear, but twice now i've seen jobs advertisd and have submitted my c.v's and applications and then bookmarked the vacancy. Today i have gone on there and looked in my bookmarks, only to find that the job i applied for last week has now completely re worded parts of the ad, so it's no longer stating its for a deputy Manager, and the working hours have been now ammended also.

Arrgggghhhhh it just gets me really cross,. Is it the employers fault for not wording the ad proprly? Or are the people at the job centre just totally incompetent at being able to get employers job ads right?

Sorry rant over, Has this happened to anyone else.

to be honest most employers need a good kick for their job adverts these days! the phrases and wording they use are plain stupid! they ask for qualifications that are outdated and many dont seem to have a general understanding of the education system and what new employee's are capable of by looking at their qualifications!
I know with hundreds of people applying for the same jobs they can be picky but they could probably try writing an advert in english that makes sense...

what also annoys me is when they say "hours 18-35" so I tend to email them and ask... "oh its 18 hours" - well why doesn't your advert just say 18?!

oh AND the annoying job titles... hopefully now that the BBC are gonna start using clearer job titles instead of what quite frankly must be made up ones... other companies will follow suit? am I the only person who doesn't think being titled "administrator" or "consultant telephonic data manager" matter... certainly adding words like consultant and manager dont make ME feel any better about a job...

I absolutely agree with you both. One things that really annoys me as well is when the ad says send CV / application to so and so. I spend an hour or two on the application letter as I like to tailor it to the role and when i submit my application with my CV, the employer replies with 'Thank you for your interest in the role. Please fill in an application form by visiting this website....". I usually don't bother with those afterwards. If they're so incompetent in getting the job advert right, I wouldn't want to work for them!

Argh yes the direct.gov job search facility, its a complete mess, theres jobs that arent on the direct.gov section which are on the job centre search which is weird as i thought the 2 searched the same jobs database(for example if i select the same search settings eg distance, job type or job area). Unfortunately the job centre search is being closed at the end of this month so god know whats going to happene then,

And today, the new search facility also seems to believe that Poole, London, and Hertfordshire are within 10 miles of Durham.

I just typed in ".net programmer in Sussex". First result: Bristol Area.

And I fully agree with the other points regarding obfuscating what the actual specs are. It helps nobody!!

My opinion of recruitment agencies is nearly as low as my opinion of letting and estate agencies these days. All they serve to do is get in the way of the people you actually want to speak to!
