I know! My sister lives in Scotland and her local council give a grant of £50 per child in infant/junior school and £75 per child in High school. I know that the amounts given in England are less £35 and £55 I think, but that would be a big help.

The problem with that is that it would be standardised to zero. That's how it works.

I think when I was in school it was a standard thing to get a school clothing grant if your parents were unemployed no matter where you lived. Then it changed so it was at the discretion of individual councils to decide...Durham decided not to.

    What a nightmare!

I went to a similar school where it was a very specific uniform - blazer, jumper, skirt etc no change out of £200 and so on. Its a real con but theres no way around it usually - the quality of the clothing is nothing compared to the price either.

I'm so pleased someone else has noticed that too. The school trousers I bought for dd last year went shiny on the knees after just a couple of months and they looked terrible. The blouses are a real pain to keep white, they have lycra in them so you can't wash them on too hot a wash so they tend to go slightly grey very quickly. I thought maybe I just wasn't washing them right LOL
