Looby - are you absolutely sure there's no second hand uniform available ... As you know, your daughter's at the same school I went to ... Does the lower site still have a shop (used to be on the lower corridor near the middle) ... I'm SURE they used to sell second hand uniform ... Prob not much use right now as they must have just broken up and your DD will be changing sites ... just a thought though!

School uniform: do ALL items for your daughter have to be new, with the school logo on? For example, a school blazer is probably unavoidable, but surely a blouse is a blouse? And you can get a smart white blouse from a charity shop for about a pound. And does the skirt have to be a new school one, or just any smart black skirt?
The school uniform is the baine of my (and a lot of other parents) lives. When my dd started the school 2 years ago the uniform was blazer, plain white blouse and shool tie. Trousers or skirt could be from anywhere as long as they weren't to low on the hips or flaired (for the trousers) or too short for the skirt. Then they got a new headteacher who had been deputy head at a private school and she decided that the uniform wasn't smart enough and needed to be changed. She decided that girls could no longer wear shirt and tie but to replace the tie they chose an open necked blouse embroidered with the school logo, NO other blouse is accpetable and she has sent kids home for not wearing the school logo. If I could find trousers that are almost identical to the ones the school spesified (out of the trutex catalouge) then it wouldn't matter if they were second hand, I have been looking round but so far no joy

The school has stopped selling uniform, it's part of the deal with trutex, they get 10% of all sales as long as they don't sell uniform themselves   :mad:0 -
I think you need to complain to the Head AND also the Governors that this is way too expensive, asking why they cannot have plain blouse/skirt/trousers & then the blazer and sweater with logo.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Parents have complained....they are refusing to budge.
The school covers quite a large catchments area, most of it quite well off areas. If the school had their own way the area I live in (and one other) wouldn't be part of the catchments area....we aren't posh enough. The people who don't mind paying £13 a school blouse out number the ones who don't so the school won't budge over it.0 -
What about Lost Property? When I was at school there was always loads of uniform in lost property that you could buy for very little.
Also have you checked ebay for the fridge? We just sold our old fridge on ebay and although it was only 2 years old it went for about half what we paid for it. I'm sure older fridges would go for even less. What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!
DFD - WAS: a while ago
NOW - not sure, due to boyfriend going back to uni for masters and now pgce. Worth it in the long run!
Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
hi looby,
Have you spoken to the school? Most have funds available to help out students from less affluent families. Maybe they will be able lend you the money for the uniform.
BTW, which school is it? I live in SE London and would be interested to know for future reference.Saving for an early retirement!0 -
It's not in SE London, Imelda ... it's miles and miles away ... I didn't move to London until I was 21Imelda wrote:BTW, which school is it? I live in SE London and would be interested to know for future reference.

Joy of joy

I've got a new (well second hand) fridge freezer coming tomorrow.:j :j :j My SIL's MIL is getting a new kitchen fitted and all the appliances were included in the package so she has a 5 yr old fridge freezer going spare. AND she doesn't want any money for it, All it's going to cost me is £20 because the people who are fitting her kitchen have said they will deliver it for me if I give them £20.
I can't tell you all what a relief it is to have one less thing to worry about actually 2 less things. I was talking to my mil today about the Matalan sale and asked if my fil would take me and my dd through there tomorrow to see if I can get her some school trousers and she has offered to buy dd's new blazer
They have just stopped smoking and she has a bit of extra cash at the moment so wants to help
I am so lucky. Last night I was feeling at my lowest since soon to be ex-dh left, what a difference a few hours can make.
AND my sons appointment for the ENT clinic came today too, so fingers crossed that the start of him getting better so maybe I might be able to get a pt job soon.
Things are still going to be tight but at least I've got a bit of breathing space now.
Imelda, fyi the school is in Durham....Bargain Rzl is a north east deserter
