I do think that doing it by yourself is an even greater achivement - though to be fair it's easier in some ways in that you don't have to convince your other half/family to have to go without expensive treats etc
This is exactly how I feel
Welcome to the forum by the way Luv2Budget! :beer:0 -
Welcome to the forum. I would like to say you that I am also single and same thing is in my mind. I am bit worried regarding that. But you have done a good job so far. Hope you will be able to pay the outstanding shortly.0

paid off every penny of my £130,000 mortgage by myself...still have £11,000 to pay though but have £15,000 in savings...decisions decisions0

I'm in the same boat, got £41 grand to pay, only overpaying £80 a month at the moment and will pay it off by the time I'm 50, 14 years to go, I've already cut it by 5 years but hoping to get rid of it a lot quicker than this.0

Well done fieldofdreams! - I'm sure you will find someone to share it with soon.
Thanks Meames - I'm a bit fortunate to pay that amount because I don't have any other debts and earn a good salary
Thanks for the welcome Cake 21 and Calebdyan
WaxiesDargle - well done that is really impressive - how long did it take you??0 -
Hi Luv2Budget
I got divorced 12 years ago and started again...so 12 years.....:)
I had a little help from part of my final salary pension lump sum ...but I had to pay 11% of my wages every month for 30 years to earn that pension...
having scrimped and scraped through all my life...tis a massive weight off my shoulders to get where I am...life is soooo much better after you ditch the mortgage0 -
Hi WaxiesDargle - that is amazing paying £130k off in 12 years and like you said it is a weight off your shoulders. You have so much freedom when you've paid off your mortgage. I like that I'm saving a lot in interest. Hate giving anymore money than I have to, to the banks!0

I am single and went mortgage free 3 years ago.
One of the best moves I ever made, while all around me were having their holidays and nights out I was saving my hard earned to clear the debt.
Even better when last september I was made redundant, the worry of a mortgage would have sent me under.
To all you MFW's keep at it, you wont regret it for one second when you get there.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
In the eyes of the law I'm considered single... and if often feels like I'm very single when it comes to saving for overpayments!!!MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0
