I'm married however feel that my MFW journey is being done by myself :(

My OH is pretty crap with money.....she can go out for milk and come back with £20 worth of shopping! She rarely has anything left at the end of the month to save or use as OP.

I pay 3.5 x OH into the mortgage, have set up monthly OP's and also yearly OP's......try to cut back as much as possible to meet my goal of being MF before I am 40 (<3 years).

Despite advising her that when the mortgage is paid off she will have even more money to spend and we will be more financially secure she still does not 'get it'. If she tightened her belt we could have this mortgage off much quicker!

    Rant over :D

Ahh Jock Tight - I feel for you - you can definitely join! considering you have an OH who is not overpaying with you, it is amazing the amount you have paid off.

Some people just don't 'get it' as you say. Lots of people don't see mortgage as a debt and just think you have to pay it over 25 years. They don't seem to understand that if you overpay, you are saving lots of money on interest. Banks must absolutely love people like that - and hate people like us!

    Hi all,

I commented earlier in the post about me too being single and with kids but trying to do my best to become a mfw. I have looked at the spreadsheet link which was on here and its absolutely fantastic, the person who created this is a star!

When I put in the payments I had already made, I couldnt see anything happening until I realised it was knocking off the balance from the bottom and it is such an inspiration to see a month disappear. I started to get worried that I couldn't do this and so stopped writing on my diary but looking at this spreadsheet every day has given me the motivation to start again.

The only problem is I want to put overpayments in every day and not each month....ooh need more money. Even a penny makes a difference!

Just wondered how everyone is doing now it's coming up to the end of the month

Quite a good month for me and due to NSD's and menu planning have ended up with some 'spare' money at the end of the month. I also earned a little extra (£45) and have shaved off the surplus balances on some accounts - I have an all singing all dancing cash forecast that helps me decide whats surplus and what I'm going to need in the next few months. So have rang bank and increased my OP which goes out on the 1st. Such a good feeling :D

I also started using Cashback site in early March so am hoping that over the next few months am hoping to see a little income from that including £50 for taking out AA Membership! Intend to put any cashback when I get it towards OP's also

  • Hi all,

Just thought I'd bring back this old thread I started well over year ago. How is everyone getting on, have you still been overpaying in this tough economic climate.

Any newbies are welcome too with their stories!
  • Nice to see you, hope your journey has been going smoothly,
