with regards to fake tan. My SIL to be does spray tans and i enquired as to whether she could do me for the wedding. She said that it is very likely to come off on the inside of your dress, so if the dress is white it could stain. She recommended using something like the Johnsons Holiday Skin to build up the tan over a few days as it is less likely to rub off.

I've had a couple of Brazillian waxes - if you don't want too much information then don't read the bit in pink - they leave a 'landing strip' but take everything else off, underneath and between the cheeks!

I had never had one and always did it myself, but i must say, i would never go back now. It does hurt and can be a little awkward if you are a bit embarrassed, but the ladies have seen it all before! It is pretty quick and the final result is great, very smooth and looked good, took a little longer than shaving to grow back and was less itchy. It settled down quite quickly, i put aloe vera gel on. I think if you have it regulary then it inhibits the regrowth a bit.

I'd recommend it, but it will hurt and you may have to put your legs in the air depending on what you have and who does it. If you are thinking of trying waxing get a recommendation from a friend - if you are in Plymouth I's recommend Reflections on North Hill.

Glad everyone's planning is going well. I'm a bit stuck as OH is unemployed so we're a little concerned about how we can pay for it, although have £2.1k from the folks so i'm pretty sure we can do what we want. The venue and hire of generator and toilets are our biggest cost £750 and maybe £600 (although not sure as my friend who is helping to sort it is on holiday for another week!) which leaves £750 to feed and water 65 guests. We'll have a pay bar and are not bothering with most things like favours and presents for anyone and have lots of free stuff, like photographer and make up, BMs have got their own dresses so only need to feed people. Think we have a hog roast sorted from a friend (not sure how much it will cost to hire or how much they can get us a hog for) but i imagine we can provide a glass or 2 of bubbly and some food for £750.

I'm sure it will all work out, but it's a little worrying. Plus everyone keeps saying how's the planning going and really we've had more pressing things to worry about, like OH not working (and not being entitled to any dole or tax credits) and at the moment i have no idea how i'm going to afford a dress, but if it comes to it it will be a £20 job from New look. It's the getting married that's important to us, which we should just about be able to afford. The off on a week's holiday that has wonderfully been sorted as a gidt.

Sorry for the moan, it's good to get it off the chest though!

Moan away Jezzabell its what we are here for! Hogroast sounds perfect, you should just be able to get the hogroast and you can make salads and get rolls etc the day before if its coming up pricey.

Are you close to one of the bridal oxfams??? My friend got her dress there for £50 and it was perfect. Also dont forget you need a something borrowed so it may be worth asking if friends have shoes etc you could borrow. I agree its much more important to just get married and your day will be splendid and you will ultimately get married whether you spend £1000 or £10,000.

For what its worth I am not bothering with favours either... I am bothering with handwritten thank you cards afterwards though! Just received one through the post today for a wedding we went to last year and it was just a standard printed message glued into a shop bought thankyou card and signed by the bride. Not being funny but I would expect more especially since we helped clear up afterwards as well as buying a £50 present!

jezzabel what size are you? i got a brand new wedding dress still got tags on for £50 on ebay! I have heard of others getting such bargains as well. Have you anything you can sell on there? old dvd's book, clothes, bits of furniture, gadgets, ornaments? If you sell then buy you won't feel so bad about spending.

Jezzabell-we are having a hog roast in the evening to feed 150 people, not salads etc, just a pig-in-a-bun and it's costing us £500. Thought it might give you an idea of what to expect-we had been quoted £750 by someone else !

oh! I've just remembered I can tell you lot because you won't be at the wedding....we've booked dance lessons for our first dance!! We found a deal on the groupon website so have 3 lessons for £15! We think our first dance will be to Nat "King" Coles' "Almost like being in love", I did want the wannadies, but if the H2b is willing to do something funky to the tune he wants, I'm loving it!! :j
Hopefully we'll learn some pretty simple little waltz, or whatever goes with the tune, I'm really looking forward to it :D
  • Thanks all for your help and advice. Maysie I am a 16 (although am loosing pounds!), if that's close PM me the details.

Thanks Magicboo. A local publican who is a sort of friend (and my parents have given plenty of business to from their B&B) has the spit that we can use (don't know how much he wants to charge yet, I'll have to flutter my eyelashes!) and we also have a friend who rears their own pigs, so hopefully have a good deal on that. We're going to get another friend to actually keep any eye on it and serve.

I'm sure it will all be fine, it's just getting rather close - 65 days  and OH being unemployed is getting rather tedious!

Thanks for all your support though.

When i was looking i searched by uk only, recently listed. Recently because if anyone makes a mistake with the title or decription you can put a bid in quick then it cannot be changed so it might end at a lower end price and also if there is a bargain on buy it now you see it first. Make sure the quality looks good you don't' want to end up with a bad knock off from china. Evening finishes usually sell for more than a daytime finish.
  • Thanks Maysie. I like the last one. I'll keep looking on ebay, I'm sure I'll find something nice. There is a charity wedding shop near by so will go and check that out. Plus, my lovely sis has offered to lend me the money to g et a dress if i can pay it back in the next few months. So if OH gets a job soon, I may take her up on the offer, as soon as we have some money coming in it will all be fine as I earn ok.

Ok so hair and make up trial last night. Was really pleased with the hair last night but now looking at the pics am not so sure! My fault really I asked for messy bun but looking at the back I think its a bit too messy and may ask the lady to do a few less curls (hair is naturally straight) and add some more defined loops to the bun. Also the flowers will be better arranged (and less of them!). Do you think I can ask this and not have another trial???

Also wrote an email to my dress designer asking what petticoat I should have under it and saying I think the shop sold me the wrong one. I also wrote a review for the dress shop I got it from and wasnt overly scathing but it certainly wasnt gushing, also mentioning the petticoat and the fact my appointment when I collected the dress was really disappointing and the lady in the shop was miserable and frankly couldnt be bothered. Review has since disappeared and shop has been calling me all morning! May pick up the phone next time, just not sure if the calls are about my petticoat or about the review??

ah its about the petticoat, they just sent me an email offering a refund if I am not happy... suspect they have seen and removed the review... still leaves me worrying about what petticoat though! Gah.

hi everyone! good to hear so much progress - i love your dress aarchk!

i dont really feel like i've got anywhere these past few weeks! am struggling with photographer - have about 4 on the go who i am talking to and am going to meet with them but i find it really tricky in choosing - i think i am going to go with the one i get on with the most and feel i can relax around.

and who is not too pricey! went to a wedding showcase at my reception venue last night - there was a photographer there who did an ultimate package for £5k!!!!  it came with a 2 night spa stay at a fancy hotel, and ipod touch to take on honeymoon, a champagne 'viewing' of your pictures, one picture on canvas and multiple albums!! i couldnt believe - that's nearly double the price of my venue!!!

the showcase was good though and nice to see it all done up and how we could have the room layout, disco etc. lots of fabulously expensive things on show so had to reign in my desires!!

also, we didnt think we could have a week away straight after the wedding but my OH has now managed to book the week off and we have booked a week in St Ives - just in a holiday park but cant wait! really pleased we'll be able to do something

so! still lots to do and need to get going!!
Wins so far - £50 Faith voucher, Lindt chocolate box worth £30, Nail Varnish, Book
:D Huge thanks to everyone who posts competitions :D
