OS Daily Thread - Tuesday 9th March 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 9th March. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Hola!
Well I doubt if I will be on here in the morning so they next greeting will be Bonjour. Getting up and setting off as early as we can manage - hopefully leaving around 6.30am - 7:eek::eek::eek:
Did manaage some packing yesterday, and had a use up tea, will now have a look and see what I can do with what is left in the fridge, maybe chop up and blanch some of veg, peppers, celery, mushrooms I think, don't think I can freese lettuce:o:o Any suggestions for quick ways appreciated. Will finish packing, clean through hopefully get 3 loads of washing dry (we had a rainy day yesterday) did put one in last night, so they are ready to hang out, ironing may have to wait for our return. Nip into town for a few last bits, and maybe a cheapy chinese 6.95€ Especial Meal of the Day, starter, main course, pudding or coffee, and half a bottle of wine/small beer/water. Usually my choice is Spring Roll, Duck in either Pineapple or Orange, and the 3 special egg fried rice (with veg and ham in).
Catch you soon (((hugs))) to all who need one, and thanks for the kind words yesterday.
Take care - DG

Sorry to hear of the news about your dad yesterday. (The Police only fill out forms for the Coroner by the way) Morning.
Cold here today with frost. Winds messed up the fishing so I did jobs instead. Accomplished much... repaired glass in greenhouse and cleaned glass, put on new trailer bearings and hubs, cleaned out shed, started to dig veg plot.... felt like I had accomplished a fair bit...
More of the same today, although it's pretty chilly with this east wind blowing at you.
Still eating leftovers and freezer stuff. I have 1lb of mince and some cut up beef..... what to do with it tonight?
Have a good day folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning Donny and all who cross/follow
icy but not as cold as yesterday morning here today, its light already which is good as it always seems nicer when we get the lighter mornings.
I can`t wait for the clocks to change at the end of the month. I know that the mornings will be dark again for a while but the days are noticeably longer now :j
Tea tonight is gammon and mushrooms with pasta and some sort of sauce - probably a tin of condensed soup tbh so quick and easy which is what i need when i`m on the early shift as i`m usually fit to drop by tea time
Floss2 - I love the wedding items that you posted yesterday especially your dress. It is stunning!
Not much else to say really atm so i`ll pootle off and do some w*rk and catch up with you all later.
Have a good day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon

Safe journey Donny
Nothing exciting to report here, another groundhog day, housework, paperwork and ironing.
Can't remember whats on the menu plan so will have a look and get whatever is needed out of the freezer.
DD had her interview day yesterday - said it went very well. She is going to keep her dress but the shoes are going on ebay - she didn't like walking in heels at all & said she won't bother again - we will wait & see on that one :rotfl:they were only small heels but some of the others were toppling around on 6 " ones - quite a few wore completely inappropiate stuff - I am sounding old and fuddy duddy now :D
Anyway glad it is over as she gets really stressed about such things.
Off to wake her up now - have a great day.x0 -
Good morning everyone.
It's cold here this morning but not as frosty by the look of it. I've been getting lots of washing dried outside over the past week so hoping that it continues. The TD is redundant for the time being :rotfl:
It's HM fish goujons for tea tonight which everyones loves. I snip fish into strips (a cod like fish), dip it into egg then seasoned flour with garlic and fry gently until crispy. Drain and serve with new pots & salad. The kids adore it so it's a nice tea once in a while.
N9eav You were busy yesterday - I love the feeling of accomplishment when I've got plenty done. How about cooking a big pan of savoury mince & a stew with the beef? It's freeze beautifully for another meal too.
Diva Hope you're having a lie in this morning :A
Better dash & see what the Flylady list is now before I get ready.
Love & hugs to all xxx0 -
Morning All
Work today and the boss is out all day but i've plenty to do so it should pass quickly.
Toast for brekkie I think and I've an MS job at lunchtime so I'll get something for lunch then and I'm going to go and put steak and onions in the small slow cooker with some bisto best and carrot - we'll have that for dinner with some mash and sweetcorn.
DD's still got a rattly cough so I think it's time to make an appointment at the dcotors as she doesn't seem to be clearing it herself.
Looks like another frosty start today but hopefully it will turn into the same day as yesterday - we had fantastic blue cloudless skies. I am aware that potentially this is our summer. It was three days in May last year!
I've booked a weeks holiday for the week after easter and just realised that isn't too far away!
Hope you all have Happy Days!

Morning all,
Cold here again but not frosty, I am loving the light mornings, :T will get more washing done and on the line today, its drying so well at the moment.
I think I will put the final coat on the kitchen today, yesterday I washed the windows down, and got all the old piant splashes off, I also siliconed the edges, and got the blinds back up.
I made some cheese scones yesterday, using all the odds and sods of cheese, and a banana and raisin cake, and some cheese and onion soup for Friday night, which is in the freezer.
DD has her drama GCSE today, its an all day test, so fingers crossed for her.
Dinner tonight will be something with mince, I quite fancy a hot chlilli, with rice.
Donny, safe journey home xx
Floss I love your wedding dress, its stunning xx
DD was moaning about her hair being dry last night, so I wet it, and covered her head in veg oil and wrapped it in an old towel, she then washed it about 4 times, but the difference this morning is amazing, I also made her a face pack from yogurt, honey and salt, which clears her skin up beautifully :T, very os here last night
OK better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Love and hugs to those who are sad or poorly.
Dry and not as frosty here this morning. OH had early start so he's been gone a while. Last nights dinner was chicken and rice, I used up the leftover chicken from Sundays roast and added onion, mushrooms, garlic, tom. sauce, curry powder, peas, peppers, sweetcorn and rice to make a sort of fried chicken rice - it started off as a recipe from a book that I have adapted to our taste - it's lovely.
Hairdresser came last night, so the menfolk in the family are all suitably smart now, bet they will be glad it's not as cold this morning!!
Tonights dinner is bangers, mash, veg and gravy, another easy dinner as I'm working a long day today. Work was really busy again yesterday, hoping for a slightly quieter day today as I have some stuff to catch up on and get done - we'll wait and see. Think I've changed my mind on the colour paint I want for the dining room, so will need to make a definite decision shortly as we need to get the paint and make a start.
Not much other OS to report so will pop off now.
Have a good day everyone.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Good Morning All. Still very cold when I let the dog out first thing. Have to stand and watch her or she takes off across the fields and her selective deafness tunes in!
WM, DW and TD all whirring away. Will put some washing on the line, but too much altogether so the towels are being dried in the TD - at least they'll be nice and soft.
Another very busy day today, with tutoring towards the end of it. Dinner will be shepherd's pie to use up the last of Sunday's roast lamb and lunch will be reheated moussaka left over from last night.
Need to use a few testers of paint today - we're about to redecorate our hall, stairs and landing and need to be sure we choose a light enough shade. I'd like a new carpet, but maybe that's too extravagant. Perhaps later this week I'll get round to cleaning it and see how that brings it up.
Hope you all have a good day.
Take care.Resolution:

Morning Peeps
Not as cold or frosty this morning but grey and overcast.
Haven't got a lot planned for today so will take it as it comes, might pop down to Wilkinsons.
Got to book the car in for it's M.O.T ....don't think it will pass so will have to find more money on top of getting the Car Tax which has gone up yet again.
The House Insurance and Car Insurance is also due, then it will be the Electric Bill ...........I hate March it is such an expensive month.
Well that's my moan for the day over.
Had a mad night last night had a yearning for pancakes and was making them at 9pm last night :rotfl:Everyone loved it and DH even washed up
Floss2 I love the dress
Donny Gal (((((hugs)))))
Tonight's dinner is Sausage Toad.

Good morning everyone!
Safe Journey to Donnygal!
Floss OMG those shoes are to die for, although I have enormous wide feet so they'd always be a pipe dream to me, and your dress and jewellery too. Makes we want to get wed all over again, is it a bit sad that I enjoy reading the Weddings board?
No work for me today I had to change my day off as older DS was sickening for something yesterday and I din't want to risk calling in last minute, however he seems well enough and is getting dressed as we speak., So today is my Friday. Shopping to do, I had let the freezer run down last week, and the kitchen to scrub out. Also got loads of paperwork to sort through and a few PTA jobs to sort out.
Thanks to those of you who gave advice about the dog yesterday, I know I sound a bit neurotic, but she's such a lovey wee thing and I worry what she's been through before we had her. She had a lovely day with her daddy yesterday and he bathed her and rubbed her beely and although she's still a bit off colour she's much happier. I went to the obedience classes last night, what a revelation! Can't wait to get started on her training today, and there were some gorgeous wee and not so wee dogs there. My favourite was a boxer poup who was just edible!
Have a gorgeous day all, hugs if you would like one.
