I used to work and live in Libya. My company to save money decided that they would stop flying us back to UK for R&R breaks, but send us to Malta instead.
However I had transitted thru Malta and stayed a few time to collect visas,so decided to R&R in Libya rather than go to Malta.Libya was crap but Malta was worse.0 -

Isn't one of the best hotels on Malta actually owned by Gaddafi?
Anyway, Melissa, if we've put you off Malta, have a look at Menorca. We had a great time with the kids there some years back.0 -
sorry to be so negative about Malta but I have been to a few other places I liked!Melissa22_Mum wrote:Hello,
My boyfriend and I are looking at going to Malta with our 17 month old in October, November this year. Has anyone got any reccomendations for hotels or areas to stay at? My boyfriends also desperate to know how much a pint is . To be honest whats it like for overall cheapness? Also whats the climate like at that time of the year? Were looking at half board or self catering if it's cheap enough over there!
We almost booked the Palm court hotel as they had a fantastic deal on all inclusive at 380 each for two weeks! However once we read the rather poor reviews we quickly changed our minds! we knew it was slightly basic when we took a virtual tour of the hotel but people who actually stayed there said the food was awful and the staff very unhelpful! A couple of people actually said it was really enjoyable the other end of the scale. They were all different age ranges and some with families others not! We don't have an abundance of cash but we would like to have a decent holiday, I'm asking here because I always get an answer and I can't face trawling through the net anymore, it's really exhausting!
Cheers any replies helpful!
We have been to Cyprus in October and that was very nice, loved children! really did. Lovely and clean and reasonable prices. Went to Turkey in Oct last year and loved that but its a little more difficult with children and especially if your blonde! they love blondes! We are going this Oct to Spain, I haven't done much of Spain, but have done most of the Canaries which we liked. I generally book 2 weeks before we want to go and do 3+/- on days for departure.
Good luck with your choice.Panda xx

Feel I am well qualified to comment on Malta. I returned last Thursday from my second trip this year. I will be going again in October. I visit 2-3 times every year.
However, this is not because I love the place, but beacuse I do some very good business there. Also I have holidayed there twice.
The comments above are largely accurate. Certainly the * rating has nothing to do with ours here in the UK. A 4* is more like a 3* or a 3* like a 2*, unless you are staying (and paying the price) at Hilton, Intercontinental, Phoenicia or Westin Dragonara.
The best place (location wise) is Sliema, try the Preluna Towers. It is a Maltese 4* so not great, but the location is good. Excellent walks along the prom, a stroll to the harbour, opposite TFI Fridays if you are that way inclined, with a Tex Mex a few yards away. Also there is the Ta Koline restaurant a couple of hundred metres down the road which is quite good.
The people are friendly, eating and drinking out is cheaper, they drive in the shade, English is widely spoken, Brits are well thought of, there are plenty of places to go and mooch round, the beaches are pretty crap, taxis are expensive, duty free at the airport is more expensive than supermarkets, buses are cheap, the Ta Qali craft market are old aircraft hangers selling tourist tat, Gozo is worth visiting, other than that can't really comment.
Not the best place in the world, and certainly not the worst, but IMHO it beats Benidorm!!Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
