Thanks for the reply, i'll definitely get onto him about the house insurance, he has a car, whether he owns it or not is another matter. When the incident happened, he gave me his business card, which had "Wine Sales" on... Then was saying on the phone that he's a pensioner, so not really sure what to believe really.
Unless he's living in a house with no car, no TV, no computer and nothing else of value of course he can pay. If he doesn't pay then after going through small claims court you can have the bailiffs sent round. Incidentally I believe bailiffs can seize pedigree dogs as valuables...

What a lot of stupid responses on this thread, I take it judging by most of the responses here im fully justified in making a heavy childlike object and then hiding on the side of a 60MPH road then throwing it at a passing car. If they cant stop intime its "their fault" isnt it? They can always claim off their insurance eh!

Hope you get your damage paid for mate as its entirely not your fault. Hopefully the governments plans for all dogs to be insured (long overdue) will come into force very soon.

relevance? well, if the Op had hit a dog at 60 mph I would expect to see a lot of blood and tissue and fur on the car! perhaps to spare us he washed the car clean, before taking a pic.
OP have you now informed the police and insurance company? you are required to do so you know.

I informed the Police and my insurance company the day it happened as i was told it was a legal requirement, and once you have told the Police you have to tell your insurers.

My mum was telling me about the proposed dog insurance thing, it's typical of something like this happening to me though, steps to prevent it will be in place AFTER it happens :P

Hopefully this might help people in the future in my position because it simply isn't fair!

Even though it's yet another stealth tax, it's actually an excellent idea for once.

On a brighter note, if the guy's into rescuing greyhounds, he'll probably save another one.
    Every cloud and that.

I am a doggy lover - I love my dog to bits - honestly. I treasure her which is why I like to think I look after her and that includes putting her on a lead near roads. I would be devastated if she were to be run over.

BUT, I love my 18 year old son more and if he is driving and a dog runs out - even if it were my dog - then he should not risk his, his passengers or anybody else's life to save it.

It is not fair that the op should have to pay. I wish him luck on getting his money.

Unfortuately, those of us who own pooches who are of little danger to anybody are the ones who will pay insurance. Those who own the dangerous dogs and/or let them loose to run and pooh everywhere creating havoc are likely to ignore any law - or abandon the animal.

Not really, the proposals will never work. Just look at how many knackers are out their driving without car insurance.

Thanks for the further support, atleast some people are morally intact!

Perhaps you should try reading the thread before making idiotic comments like that I believe the OP stated a few pages ago he contacted the police and insurers the day of the accident.
At times I wish this forum was moderated then we would not have to put up with unhelpful posters like yourself and the cat lady:mad:
