I Hit A Dog With My Car - Advice On Court Action
Comments

The thing is the owner was not negligent if the dog slipped it's colar. If he had let him off deliberately for training say then he is negligent.
The thing I'm thinking is that you shouldn't have been driving at 60 even if the speed limit is thus. If there are loose dogs, children or even normal, sane looking pedestrians around you should kill a bit of speed. If you didn't see the dog until it was too late then you shouldn't have been doing 60 because this means there wasn't clear visibility. What if it had been a small child? Were there parked cars around? Why didn't you see the dog in advance?...0 -

I don't mean to sound rude, but i'm getting a bit fed up with people questioning my driving judgement for whatever reason it may be. It doesn't mean there isn't clear visibility, there is a ditch at the left from which the dog sprinted from. Some people seem to be thinking this dog kinda stood by the side of the road for a while (long enough) for me to see, and then kinda plodded into the road. Thanks
EDIT: I'll put the pictures here
Slow down you bloody lunatic, there is a child hiding behind the lampost0 -

A friend of mines car came out of the workshop with scratches etc all down it... Which is a shame. They also want a further £200 for labour...
Thanks for the good wishes, i have a day off tomorrow so i'll be in contact with the dog owner
No worries, just thought I would mention it that is all. Hope you get it sorted soon.0 -
Another 'what iffer..' All becoming quite bizarre.
The Op has received some good advice and I am sure is well capable of deciding which course of action to take. He also seems to be a sensible and intelligent young man with a good attitude towards safe driving.
Dr Shoe must be a shoe doctor as he is talking cobblers.
I wouldn't want this Dr. to 'heal' my shoes.
'what if they were childrens sho...'
No, I'm not going there. Had enough.0 -

Thanks buddy, really does mean a lot to me when in this day and age everyone seems to think that young male drivers are the scum of the earth...0 -
relevance? well, if the Op had hit a dog at 60 mph I would expect to see a lot of blood and tissue and fur on the car! perhaps to spare us he washed the car clean, before taking a pic.
OP have you now informed the police and insurance company? you are required to do so you know.0 -

If you read the previous posts you will see there is no requirement to inform the police as the owner is already aware of what happened and the OP has informed his insurance company.
Whats your problem :huh:0 -

How is any of this relevant to the OP's question about how to pursue the dog owner, who has admitted liability, for the cost of repairs?0 -

She's going to need a new light, new bumper (Is broken in several places, looks worse in real life), new grille, new plastic bit just behind the grille, and most likely a new bonnet too...
Forget about that, look what a mess the dog has made of your registration plate.0
