Shampoo Makes My Hair Lank
Comments
-
I've had a similar problem recently - used to have dry hair, but am now finding that the roots especially are getting greasy quicker than they used to, and I have thick, rather corase hair, so it looks a bit odd. lol.
At the moment, the best shampoo etc that I have found is Phyto (can pick it up from boots). It aint cheap, but by golly the products work (says someone who has tried just about every product going). Gives my hair a nice shine, much less frizz and it doesn't get greasy as quickly. I was using the Jojoba moisturising shampoo, but have switched to the Citrus one for colored hair and have found that one works better for me. They've also started doing a little mini-pack, as well, with 3 products for £13, so that may be worth a look at.
I'll also second the recommendation for Batiste - the stuff works wonders and can be a lifesaver if you're hair's greasy, but don't have time to shower.0 -
I've always had the same problem with my hair, Scammo. I always think of my hair as "greasy" as it's slick by the next day, but it's not really greasy, more dry in places.
I picked up lots of John Freida's thickening shampoo and conditioner last week when it was cheap in Tesco and since I started using it I can honestly say the difference is amazing! It took a couple of washes to get the best effect but now my hair is still bouncy and shiny (in the right way) on the second day. I don't know exactly what the shampoo and conditioner do - maybe it's a better formula of cleansers or if the extra volume helps in some way but I'm hooked!
It's only a game

The lankiness starts about 12-24 hours later but sometimes I can see it as soon as I've washed it and run the comb through it while it's still wet. It feels heavy somehow.
If its heavy when its wet then it sounds like the conditioner has not been fully washed out. I always do the squeak test with my hair i.e. when you run your fingers through your hair when its wet it should squeak.
My hairs horribly lank when I leave conditioner in it.
I've also noticed that my hair goes lank and greasy when its near my TOTM.0 -

I don't think PS uses conditioner, just shampoo (is this correct?) it could be many things, I guess you'll never know till you've tried but product wise I'd look for shampoos without any 'cones and where sulfates are not too high up in the ingredient list (your scalp can try to overcompensate and produce too much natural oils). If you find it itches or feels tight at all, even slightly it could be your sensitive to whats in the shampoo.
It could be worth reviewing what you eat as Fire Fox suggested too- what you eat can be fine for months then all of a sudden...odd things start to happen. I had a friend who had a similar reaction to dairy, she could drink and eat it fine, then about 6 months later her intollerances would come back and she'd have to cut it out for a month, bringint it back in slowly over about 3 months and repeat the same cycle.
It could also be any vitamins your taking, maybe your body has rebuilt what it did not have and is now getting rid of what it doesn't need. I think that a few vitamins are fat soluable and a few water soluable. If you have too many water soluable ones, they basicly go straight through you. The fat ones end up in your liver, but I wonder (and I have no medical knowledge on this btw) if your body maybe doesn't also try to get rid of some through natural oils in your hair too- you naturally wil have oils in your hair, everyone does, but if the oils are combined with other vitamins your body is trying to get rid of, maybe it just makes your hair heavy. But of a way out guess I know but just wondered if that could be possible.0 -
Yes, it's true that I don't use conditioner on my hair.
Thanks for the tips everyone.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0
