Am in a quandary (sp?) - I tried on a dress several weeks ago and fell in love with it. Wanted to haggle the price down and managed to get £100 off, so down to £400, but shop wouldn't tell me the designer. Tried it on a 2nd time, still loved it, had a good look for labels but couldn't find any. Its what they call a one-off and is in the sale - does that mean its a sample? It has a couple of little snags in the chiffon outer layer, but nothing to worry about, but it will need taking in, up and the bust altering.

Anyway, me and mum did some more shopping around, didn't find anything but I've been enjoying looking at others and have seen lots that seem so much better quality than the first one AND are by recognisable names.

I had kind of given up on the first dress as the shop wouldn't tell me the designer and didn't answer an email in which I said I would buy it after all for the £400 price. Anywho, they've now answered my email and said come on in when you want etc but still no mention of the designer. The shop is 190miles from me, so not convenient to just drop in on them!

I haven't found anything else like it at a price I can justify paying! I physically cannot bring myself to pay £1k for the Sottero Landis that I fell in love with elsewhere!! Am I being unreasonable in wanting to know the designer? Does it matter that much or am I just being snobby?

  • Joho if you love the dress maybe it's worth getting it, although the shop staff do seem to be acting rather odd?!

Morning everyone! I'm starting to have sleepless nights now due to all the mental to-do lists in my head. I'm working today and tomorrow and then have loadsssss still to do! I need to slow down time lol!!!

Thanks Caitlinsmummy. Am inclined to agree! So, okay, assuming I'm buying the dress - what should I be expecting from the shop in terms of cleaning the dress, making good any tears (not that I noticed any), packing it etc?

As for your to do lists - maybe you would sleep better if you wrote everything down before you go to bed? Even if you discard it and start again in the morning, it'll be a weight off. x

  • Hmmm not sure, but definitely clarify before you confirm purchase!
I have been writing everything down but the big day looming is making it difficult to 'unwind' lol. Slept a lot better the last couple of nights thankfully. Last day at work today woohoo!!!!!

joho id definitley want to know who the designer is, what if its just a chinese copy or somethin!
you can tell the shop i want to know who the designer is for that reason and because they are soo far away, ask them also why are they hiding it
i know barnados sell designer dresses but wont tell you who because the designer gifts the dresses to them but want to remain anonymous but thats different, theyve told us straight from the start

Thanks bubble and caitlinsmummy. They just rang me this morning saying they had someone coming to try on dresses today and did I want this dress or not. First time they've put any pressure on me so I took the chance to ask who the designer is. The woman said she genuinely didn't know, that she was just staff and that the bosses took out labels, but that once I'd bought it she would find out who the designer was. All very odd I think. I'm not very good at pushing or confrontation so I think I've been fobbed off with a rubbish excuse! :o

It seems like a good quality dress, the material seems the right weight and thickness etc to me, the boning and support seems right etc, so I don't think it's a copy - but then what do I know! I'm hardly a dress expert.

Anyway, I suppose the upshot of it is I love the dress, I haven't found anything that comes close to it or that I like as much (apart from the £1k Sottero Landis!) and therefore it is probably worth £400.

OMG! That means I've just bought a wedding dress!!!

Hi bubbles - we're not getting married until September 2011, but we are doing it in Greece so I wanted a fairly light and flowy dress which this Jemima2 one is. I loved the Landis but the more I thought about it, the more I felt it might be too much in the heat.

OMG! I must be the worlds worst procrastinator!! if I can't even decide on a dress what am I going to be like on flowers, food, BMs dresses etc etc And I swore I was going to be an easygoing bride not flipping Bridezilla! Aaaaaaargh!!! I'm sure I'm the sort of person that other people on forums get really fed up with! I would get fed up with me.

    xx
