Thanks for that suggestion andygb. Which station of Yorkshire Police would you suggest I contact? Being from the South I have not had any contact with Yorkshire Police (not had much contact down here either!).
I tried to contact Yorkshire Police - the chap I spoke to seemed unaware of anything and told me to speak to my local Police and give them a statement which should the get passed on to Yorkshire.
I would try the HQ, or Leeds (is that where the restaurant was?), and be persistent, because it is all too easy to be fobbed off by someone who does not care.0 -
West Yorkshire Trading Standards -- 01133848848 -- are taking a keen interest in this situation as are W Y Police Economic Crime Unit -- 01274474247 , who are collecting information and I think that it is in the interests of everyone affected to add weight to the cause.
These people obviosly think that this will disappear if they keep a low profile.
The restaurant closed and no responce to phone calls.
Prove them wrong, remember the old saying " like a dog with a bone "
Don't let go -- keep at it!!!!
Yes ,there is a good chance that we will all be refunded under section 75 of the Consumers Credit Act,if you have used a credit card and the purchase was over £100 , but why should Denis keep our money.:beer:0 -
Well I tried the trading standards on the number given. The lady I spoke to didn't seem to know anything about Mardenis. She looked them up on the Companies House website and that said that the company is still active. She then drew my attention to consumers direct website (some government site) where they have template letters and suggested that I took one of those and wrote to Mardenis to ask for my money back. Also said that if nothing is forthcoming then I could consider the small claims court!
Fat chance of success there.0 -
As jonnop stated, i think I must of spoke to the same lady not very helpful. I did contact the number for the police who I must say were very interested and very helpful, there is a dedicated officer who is looking after this case. Now waiting for credit card company to action my claim form.0

Agreed about the police - very interested.
I am not sure why, but I have written to Mardenis but hold out little hope of any joy there.
I will continue to watch this thread for the next fascinating developments.0 -
Company is now in administration.

Thanks for letting us know the latest news.
The WY police were interested when I rang them with my (smallish) amount and said they had a lot of names, but the trading standards couldn't have been less interested.
CC company knew all about it - form is in the post.0 -
Trading Standards- said I had to give them a chance to deliver, and that they had 30 days before I could take any action. They suggested I write to them asking for my wine or money back. I explained there was nobody to contact, so something should be done ASAP, they repeated the 30 day rule. Waste of time.
Police- Not interested, they said it was a civil matter, I suggested a crime of fraud had been committed, they repeated it was a civil matter and refered me to Trading Standards. I asked if I could go to 3 York Place and take goods to the total of what they had swindled me of, they said that would be illegal. Waste of time.
NatWest Bank- I contacted the fraud department, they said as I had willingly gave them my bank details, then they would not investigate. I said I had paid for goods that never existed, and that is fraud, and they are the fraud department. They repeated the "willingly gave them my bank details" and said they would not investigate. I have been with Natwest some 40 years, and have a lot of money with them. This will now change, I am moving banks.
Conclusion- we are stuffed! it is incredible that Mr.Lefrancq can be allowed to do what he has done, with all the alarm bells ringing and nobody would do anything to help. Staggering.0 -
how did you pay for the wine, surely you must be covered by credit card. i paid by egg visa and am thankfully covered. given the questionable pricing you must have surely paid by cc?:eek:0

After speaking to WY Police I met with one of their detectives yesterday to give my statement, If you contacted them and left your details they should be contacting you soon.0
