A Payment A Day - Part 8!

  • Morning all! Roll on payday on Friday then I can pad with a vengeance again (until I'm skint!).

Got an assignment due in today which I had every intention of getting up and started, but I slept really badly as I started getting the signs of a cold last night and now have a horrible headache, swollen and sore throat and blocked nose. Now wondering whether to call in sick for tomorrow, but I might be ok (some colds can mean risk of burst ear drum) and if I go sick that would mean I will have a disciplinary for sickness.:(

I dont have an account with Virgin myself so cant help there!

Hope your feeling a bit better after your friend letting you down xx

They're carp! And the highest interest. Although, am hoping that once that balance is cleared, they will offer a 0% interest transfer. Then I can transfer Halifax card debt over to it and reduce my repayment time even more! :D (Fingers crossed anyway!)

I am feeling OK today. I've calmed down a lot. And she's still waiting on her test results. They've now quoted 8 weeks to her (it was originally 3-4 weeks). But I'm hoping that no news is good news, ie, if they found anything serious they'd pull her in straight away.

So, I replied to her email this morning, and included this in it:

"OK, now, I don't want anyone to get upset by this, but I have to ask. In future, could you please not tell me about any plans to visit until you are sure that you can make it?
The reason I ask is because each time you start to plan, I get my hopes up and really look forward to seeing you. And there have now been a few times, for various reasons, that you weren't able to make it and so the plans were pushed backwards and then I become quite disappointed and very upset (I miss you guys terribly).
I know it's not intentional, but I don't want to feel like this again. So, by all means, you are more than welcome to come for a stay (please do), but please don't start to plan it with me until you are sure you can make it."

And then I went on to ask about how things are in general and added in some general chit chat. It's not harsh is it? I was trying to be firm, but fair/kind.

Anyway, had an out of office message so she won't see it until tomorrow.

Pyscho - I hope you feel better soon. Is there anything you can do to ease the cold? I understand that nasal sprays are very good for things like this. ie, it keeps the nasal passage between ear and nose clear, so reduces the chance of your ears 'popping'. Hopefully, that would also reduce the chance of a burst ear drum.

If not, then go sick. And when they 'discipline' you, you can tell them that you made, what you thought to be the best decision. Did they really want you to work, only for your ear drum to burst in flight, which would require urgent medical attention and probably cause panic amongst the passengers on board. I know I'd be freaked out if the flight attendants ear drum burst in flight!!

I think that sounds perfect - told her how you feel but without being rude or nasty, hopefully from that she will understand just how much it disappoints you and upsets you when she tells you of plans that she isnt going to keep to. I am sure there is no way she can be cross at that.

Psycho - i hope you are feeling better soon, seems a little harsh to me that they can discipline you for being ill - madness!

  • Euro - I might go to the chemist later, I did think about going to the doctors but usually it's not serious enough to get signed off. They do tell us to make sure we are fit to fly before we go in, but then chuck the book at us when we go sick!! It's ridiculous. Hopefully it'll clear a bit today, but I've got such a long day tomorrow and we get told off if we get taken off halfway through the day as well!

That sounds like an ok email, if she gets annoyed then its because she knows she has done wrong, but hopefully it means you can both clear up the issue and not let it happen again.:)

Thanks Flower and Pyscho. :). I thought it best to just ask for things to change for the future, rather than start pointing fingers about the past. And hopefully, by then carrying on with a normal chat, she'll see that it isn't something I want to dwell on.

Pyscho - your employer is crazy and their policies seem to contradict themselves! Do you have a union? If so, has this been discussed before? If not, I would bring it up with them again and point out that you are now seriously considering putting your health at risk because of the policies in place!

And to tell you off, if you are taken off halfway through the day.....well, what can I say?! They can see you're ill, so what's the problem?! Oh yes, you're supposed to be robots and never get ill! Fools!

Not that I'm aware of. Soon there will be a lonely calaculator looking for a home... who wants to adopt it and be the counter next month? :D

Euro - I think that email sounds fine, you're explaning how it makes you feel which is good.

Psycho - hope you feel better soon. I hate that you're made to feel bad for taking time off when you're ill and know when you go back that you will be disciplined.
