OMG COMP no wonder you had a fight. It's hard when your OH doesn't seem to get it either. It would just get my OH's back up and he would think I was criticising his parents.

This is why I'm in no rush to marry OH after 7 years, I just know his parents would be sticking their oar in thinking they're being helpful but really just b*tching about it. My OH is so used to the way his parents handle things i.e. very critical and blunt and they just come out with hurtful comments without thinking about what they're saying that he doesn't really notice it.

I've just started to say to him "Look, when your mum/dad said this I found it really hurtful" and he seems to be getting it a bit more now. Next step is being brave enough to say that to their faces!

Good luck getting it all sorted. :A

    Hellooooo...

Firstly, I just have to comment on your posts, clearing_out_my_pockets, seeing as I'm getting married soon too :) You know what I've said to our parents? I love you, but...Stay. Out. Of. It. They can be as involved as they want to be as long as they don't interfere, as we will do it OUR way or they just won't be invited. End of. Your OH needs to understand that being your parents does not automatically give them the right to take over YOUR special day. I am incredibly lucky in that, although I am an only child who has always told her mother that she'd NEVER get married, my mum has been brilliantly restrained, and if anything is being TOO desperate not to be seen as interfering. She apologises for asking if we have the date yet (we've been tardy what with one thing and another) and I keep telling her that being involved and interested doesn't make her an evil MIL :)

Most of all, though, don't let them come between you and your fiance...and if they do, make sure they know it as it might make them back the f**k off ;)

Ahem. Just my 2p's worth :p

Anyhoo...hugs go out to you Euro with your dentisty stuff. I do feel for you :( And a big HUZZAH to you debt-busters. We're really getting rather good at this :)

PAD today is £2.46 into Pirate Chest and Shrapnel Vase of Doom + £2.32 into Saver (£2 rounding down and 32p STC) making a grand total of £4.78 please :)

    Almost Hump Day! Hoolllld onnnnnnn!

  • Thanks everyone... all OH keeps saying is that his parents aren't being malicious and they only want what's best for us. Well surely we are best placed to know what is best for us :p

I've bitten my tongue for so long, the next time either of them make a sly comment, I'm not going to listen. My strategy as of today is to not tell them anything.

Thing is, to all intents and purposes the wedding will look relatively expensive, but we're scrimping on everything so it will look like it cost twice as much. So we might have made them think we can afford extravagance!

As long as both you and OH are at that church on time (well, OH is there on time! :D) what difference does it make how much it cost? (although your dress should cost 1000's and shoes should cost 100's) :rotfl:

£6.98 to LloydsTSB, cleared this card last month (had just over £1k on it) this is the interest that was added when the statement was generated so paid that off.
