It can be quite sad, but because for most people university now = massive debt, if we support/encourage an application when the student stands no real chance of passing then we are saddling them with the millstone of that debt needlessly.
You only have to look at some of the posts on student forums to see that many are not suited to University, yet someone, somewhere, has allowed them to believe that they are.
When I was at school, it seemed that university was the only option. No mention of apprecticeships and the like. I only found out about NVQs (as opposed to A Levels) because my mum has done a few.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

you are right, progression is the word on the lips of all the SMT, regardless of aptitude, or suitability in many cases. Then it becomes "retention";)

Yes, I can see it's better in the long run but it must be hard on the student if they've struggled through school and have started to believe they can climb the academic ladder despite that.
Even harder to get there and fall flat on their face, I know.0 -

Yep. University is now the 'only' way. Leaving school and getting a job or an apprenticeship is for those who didn't so anything at school. If you get decent grades and decide to do either of those it, people will continually comment on the 'waste' that it is.
I hear all the time that everyone has the 'right' to go to university. Yes, okay, you have the right to go but only if you are academically suited to it. I don't necessarily mean getting straight As, because the school system isn't really a good measure of how someone will do in a university environment.0 -

University is a privilege, imo.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

welll i have been very sucessful in my college course i have got overall distictions, and i did this even with my depression so it has shown me that i can do the work and that i can do university, yes there will be many who would love to put people like me down at every minute but to me that seems like a bit of sour grapes that they cannot accept that someone who isnt "normal" can do the work.
mybe it is a privilege but it is a privilege to anyone, who can do the work requireds no matter what, to get into university in the first place.I love War Of The Worlds:heart2:

Well done and best wishes for uni. :T
I don't think it's about putting people down tbh; more about questioning the type of help offered. I guess that is questioning the system and not the person iyswim?
Also, some people won't make it and that's not about disability so don't take it personally.0 -

Thank you very much for the well wishes :TI love War Of The Worlds:heart2:
