Handbrake not covered under VW warranty

It is just down to wear and tear. The same way you have to press the break peddal an extra 2mm when your pads are getting low.

You wouldnt expect any wear and tear item to be covered under warranty.

What do you do when your tyres wear down? Ask for goodwill? Or just replace?

What about fuel? Do you ask BP for a full tank?

Guess you don't do goodwill with your used cars then?

I am suspicious about whether your signature is genuine. Any genuine motor trader would know that you don't have to press the brake pedal any further down as the pads wear. The hydraulic system is inherently self-adjusting.

Similarly the handbrake mechanism on this Polo is self-adjusting. There IS an adjustment to take account of cable stretch, but in my experience of working on many Polo's over the years the cable usually stretches very little. Certainly shouldn't need doing at 1 year old, and if it does then it takes less than 5 mins, and not a £100 job.
I wonder if there is some other problem. Not sure if the car concerned has disc or drum rear brakes, but it could be there is problem with the actual brake mechanism.

Anyway, for what its worth we always include a FOC check and adjust of handbrake in our services. For the Polo with rear discs any adjustment is free. On drum brake models we adjust the cable for free, but any fault with the drum self-adjusters seizing is usually about 30 mins labour.

It just a figure of speech, jeez...

If the cable has stretched, then its down to two reasons - the driver or a fault. The latter is uncommon.

How on earth would you stretch a handbrake cable? They stretch themselves over time with use but for a person to actually stretch this by doing something wrong is unfeasible. Sounds like one from the secondhand car dealers bumper book of excuses.
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

If someone is too heavy handed then they can easily stretch.

I'm as heavy handed as they come and have never stretched a cable on anything from old jags (which famously had terrible handbrakes requiring some yanking to get them to hold on hills) to new stuff. I've changed more handbrake cables than i care to remember no problems ever.

Sounds like another innocent member of the public being shafted by the motor trade.
