I think they should make the speed unlimited. People would pay then :D If you pay to use it then it must be private land?! :D

You mean it isn't unlimited already?:D Sometimes I've been on the M6 Toll cruising at a steady GPS indicated 80mph and I'm the slowest car on the motorway! :D

:) That little stretch of motorway has more than it's fair share of un-marked BMWs.

and Octavia/Focus ST/Golf R32/Volvo etc and i'm told there may be an Audi R8 lurking around the midlands too.

The Focus ST can be seen hiding behind the chevrons at that extra wide section that never became a junction between J1 and J2 M6 he's doing best to endear himself to an increasingly embittered populace.;)

    Is it a private road?

If yes, can national speed limits be enforced?
    I don't know, do you????

Apparently "Midland Expressway Limited" operates the toll. Whether this means they own the land I don't know.

According to this informative document http://www.m6toll.co.uk/pdf/WatchYourSpeed.pdf the fact there is a motorway symbol sign on the stretch of road means speed limits are legally enforceable under The Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Act 1982.

what is the saving in miles when using the toll road ?

None. It is virtually the same length as the normal M6.

The toll rd was put there to take away congestion off surrounding major roads. surly keep increasing the prices makes it harder for people to afford so decreases the amount people use it.
It would be more profitable if they decrease the cost then they would get far more people using it which inturn would increase there profits & take off more congestion off the other roads. this was why millions was spent building it at the moment its not used the way it should be

Just re-read your original post LB and the bit I've highlight comes with a caveat whilst the plan was partly to decrease congestion, it also had to be self financing with no Government funding.

I was curious, because when we went up to Preston in November we used the normal M6, but on the way back we used the toll road, there didn't seem to be any difference in time saving.
The only differance was the toll road was a lot quieter journey.
