Heathrow Airport Hotels - recommendations?

I have never flown before and am going on holiday abroad for the first time ever later this year. We have a very early flight so want to book a hotel near to Heathrow.
I've googled and there seems to be loads all claiming to be really close to the airport. Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations of where to book - looking for something as cheap as possible really as only a bed for the night (don't need breakfast).
We are not taking a car so don't need parking ...... just some advice of how you get from hotel to airport (many mention a free bus service?)
Thanks in advance

We normally use this when trying to decide where to stay at Heathrow as it gives good info for each hotel.

There are free buses within the LHR perimeter. There's also the Hoppa bus which is £4 each way per person and can be picked up outside of most (all?) hotels within the perimeter and some outside it. On the morning of our flight we normally book a car with the hotel - depending on where, it's not usually more than £15 which for us is worth it to not have to worry about getting a bus.

We've twice now booked through holidayextras.co.uk undercover hotels and both times have gotten the Park Inn. There's a free bus stop about a 5 minute walk (maybe slightly less) from the hotel and a pub across the road (3 Magpies, I think) which serves pub food until 9pm I think.
The Sheraton Heathrow is fine. The Sheraton Skyline is much nicer but more expensive.
And this map gives you a good idea of where each hotel is located relative to the airport (we like to stay closer rather than farther away the night before an early flight).

Many thanks - that's really helpful and much appreciated!0

Not sure what dates you're looking for, but we're also looking for a hotel near Heathrow as cheap as possible and this is what I've found so far:
Sheraton Heathrow: Approx £65 via Hotwire
Holiday Inn Heathrow: £58*
Holiday Inn Heathrow Ariel: £50*
Holiday Inn Heathrow M4 Jct 4: £59*
Premier Inn: £56 (Bath Rd & M4 Jct 4 locations)
Travelodge Heathrow Central: £29
Travelodge Heathrow Terminal 5: £22
* all using Friends & Family discount - see thread on the cheapest ways to book Holiday Inn's
That's for a Thursday night in mid September.
We've never stayed at or even been to Heathrow (always flown out of Manchester until now) so I can't personally recommend any of these, just wanted to give you an idea of the prices. We're flying into Heathrow T5, staying overnight then flying out of T3 so still debating where the best place is to stay.0 -
Thanks Vikki - I just researched prices and booked the Park Inn (as per ferf1223's recommendation) for £51.00, which seemed a pretty good price in comparison to some of the others for the same date.
One more thing off the tick list!
Thanks,

Have you considered Heathrow Yotel? It's a Japanese style pod hotel located in LHR's terminal 4. Yotel is the only place we stay when flying from Heathrow/Gatwick .. we dump are luggage then jump the train into london or wander around the airport and get into the "holiday mood"."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0

That's a good price for the Park Inn - we paid £70.50 for our night (though it's right before the Easter holidays start) and that was as an undercover hotel - booking Park Inn as named as Park Inn was a lot more.
If you can, try to eat somewhere other than the hotel - last time we didn't make it to the pub before they stopped serving food and ended up ordering room service - something we do occasionally as a treat and it's usually OK - but that £19.50 fish and chips was not very good at all. There's also a McDonald's about 1/2 mile further down Bath Road I think - we couldn't see it last time but have looked into it more this time. We normally don't eat McDonald's but would rather do that than pay £40 for 2 poor orders of fish and chips again! And there's a service station with a small shop on the corner near the hotel.
It's a BIG hotel so may be a long walk to the room and a lot of flight crew stay there, but we found it to be perfectly adequate for a one-night stay.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Thanks for the advice - we are going to a concert in London the night before we fly (not great timing!) so hope to eat early evening at the pub before heading into London - I agree that room service is not always all it's cracked up to be! It is only really a bed for the night so as long as the room is clean is should be adequate enough for our purposes.
Thanks again for your advice - much appreciated!0 -

Depends which one!
There are lots of places along Bath Road which could be within walking distance or you could catch a bus
Look at the helpful links in the second post.
More info please.0 -

We haven't decided on the hotel yet. We are flying from Heathrow terminal 5 in the afternoon the following day.
I'm trying to find one relatively close to some where to eat and drink that's not over the top price wise.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
