And if they don't have an email account? - which many people don't.

I did say earlier to those that the company had the email address of.

Which is correct (if I may use your analogy), but what if there is only one person and there are many doors to open?
That does not make that person any less polite, but it just is not feasible to open every door.

If it's done for those that were interviewed it won't be that many doors to hold open.

Sue- I see what you mean about being "shut in " but as writing music and post processing Photographs requires me to do this at least I am working. I am slowly getting there and when (yes, when ) I am in the position to earn a full time income (to at least pay the bills) along with my wife's income, I will feel a sense of achievement. I also get out on location to take photographs when the weather is nice which helps a lot. All I need at this particular point in time is a part time job 2 or even 3 days a week and I will be happy. A means to an end.

The DWP is there if you want to come off JSA. As I was only getting my stamp paid and want to work on my own creative media, it was an ideal opportunity.

I would rather spend precious time writing music that will earn royalties for years and years than wasting time filling in countless questions (what colour is your bedroom carpet, what car did your teacher have etc ) only to be ignored (Again it is COURTIOUS to have some acknowledgement or confirmation)

I have more to offer creatively to the world and if I can do it myself without the help of an employer I will

Don't move the goalposts - you were referring to lack of responses from job applications - not interviews which is a completely different matter.
I did say earlier to those that the company had the email address of.

And I asked what about the people who do not have email accounts to which you have not provided a logical answer to.
So you think it's less depressing for candidates to think they are being ignored rather than being informed?

I would use the word 'rejected' as opposed to ignored as someone will have checked their application - not ignored it - and their application will be rejected on the basis that the applicant is unsuitable for the job or vice~versa.

By virtue of not receiving acknowledgement of that harsh reality, the applicant would or should assume they have been unsuccessful and move on. Receiving confirmation of that fact is neither here nor there as the outcome is still the same.

westv I think that we both have our opinions on this subject, and I appreciate that many may be peeved at not receiving acknowledgement of their job application being unsuccesful, but I have exhausted my reasoning and it is apparent I cannot convince you how unrealistic it is of the likelihood of employers responding to all job applications.

I have given a good factual example in an earlier post how difficult it can be for HR personnel and Managers involved in filling a particular vacancy - your thoughts on that example would be interesting.

As I stated earlier, if you don't expect one, you won't be disappointed, however, it is hardly a reason to stop applying for jobs.

As an earlier poster sensibly suggested, that by doing so would be akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Most of the agencies that I apply via just send out a standard email "due to so many applicants blah blah blah if you do not hear from us then it means you have been unsuccessful in your application"

I think companies that use snail mail have given up due to the costs involved ;o(

Don't get me wrong - if you're doing something that you love and earning money at it, then good for you and long may it last! I sincerely wish I had a skill that meant I could work for myself.

But your original post was worded in such a way as to sound like you had 'given up' on trying to get employment as opposed to being in the fantastic position of not having to try to get employment. And there is a vast difference between the two.

Even your current post states that you need a part time job for 2 or 3 days per week. With respect, you're not going to find even that if you "don't bother".

I didn't move any goalposts. If you refer to my original post in this thread I was replying to a comment that specifically mentioned lack of response from companies after interviews.
Also I don't quite understand your lack of understanding re the emails. If you have an email address you get a response, if you don't you don't. Sounds simple to me. I can't imagine there are many people looking for a job that don't have some sort of email address or access to one.

OK - I throw the towel in - I have based my post on applying for many jobs without a reply and as I stated, it doesn't bother me in the slightest because I fully understand the process and appreciate what HR personnel and managers have to do (along with their other duties). I am happy with that - end of!
