Thank you o wise one! Especially loved the tyre tread hint;)
I used to have a FAB pair of DMs, but they are just not so great on ice (if I remember correctly). Anyway - I shall take your advice on board and get searching.
You're right moo, doesn't seem that long ago I was debating going to uni or not - I start my course in a month's time:eek::j - thats me being nervous and excited in about equal measure.Onward and upward - with the odd step to the side

Hey Moo
I've made beetroot cake before which is lush. I'm trying to remember if I've made courgette cakes before?? I feel like I have somehow...
I think it works well using veggies as it keeps them moist and you also get guilt free cake munching :j
Where you do you get your flylady list from?? When I was doing flylady, her emails never had that much to do in them! There was the daily wipe down of the bathroom and washing of the sink. Then the once a week 1 hour general clean. Plus a daily 15 min challenge. I don't remember it being as hardcore as your list!
I did stop getting the emails though as I found it all too much with the constant flow of emails throughout the day. I get enough junk emails as it is!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

*looks at flylady list covers eyes* la la la I am not looking! Though I did actually clean some windows today. You know you need to clean them when you start getting verdigris on the glass.....Luckily I ran out of glass cleaner, so only got 10 done, but some of those are floor to ceiling jobs, and that is not all the glass in the living room done yet!
Ref the Dr martens, I got a pair that were canvas and there were no problems with breaking them in. and thanks for the reminder need to get some laces for the pair I have got

The FLyLady list is shamelessly stolen from the Oldtimers board on MSE they update it daily which means that on a Friday the first post of theat particular week contains the entires weeks chores so I'm always a week behind them. It does mean I can tackle each room as and when it suits me rather than doign the bathroom because its Tuesday knowing that the DDs are coming home muddy Tuesday night and will manage to get mud on everything. Gave up with the real FlyLady after a deluge of E-mails that averaged one every 20 minutes. Seemed to be I spent more time reading and then deleting, but mostly deleting, than I actually did doing housework.
Left DD2 watching Happy Feet last night snuggled on the sofa with cat and kitten whilst the hairballs snored loudly at her feet and tackled the filing cabinet again. I'm getting more ruthless with every foray. Have another bin bag full of paper to shred. Also tackled another drawer of t-shirts (between us we have five - thats drawers, not t-shirts). Am determined to make some headway. Eventually. Have now sectioned the drawers into manky (for work) and not so manky (for just about everything else) and finally smart (because it is possible to have smart t-shirts, really it is).
Never did list anything on E-bay.. I am the queen of E-bay avoidance. Means I still have a pile of carp to shift which will linger for anotehr month. At least I'm likely to get a few more monkey nuts for the Leapsters if I wait until closer to Christmas. Still doubt I'll get more than a few quid though.
Plans for today involve hoovering up an array of bits from the carpet generated by a puppy shredding a loaf of stale bread stolen from Chicken Land. Interspersed are bits of gnawed bone, wood and the shredded remains of a loo roll. Puppy was in lots of trouble yesterday but was quite funny with it. Spotted what she'd done and used my naughty voice to call her name at which point she ambled into puppy land with her nose dragging on the floor and put herself in her box. Then sat wagging her tail as if to say look at me I'm clever enough to punish mysefl too.
OHs meeting is just before lunch so we're taking DD2 out as a treat. Whilst OH is in his meeting we're going to ride the SkyWays at the airport, wander round the terminal buildings and venture up onto the top floor conference rooms of the v. posh hotel to plane spot. Much warmer and cheaper than paying a fiver to park at the viewing gallery overlooking the runway which will keep her amused for all of five minutes. Its only a junction away from where he needs to be and there isn't anything much else in the area to do as its all industrial estates and hotels.
OH helped prune hedges yesterday and is generally being much more helpful all round. Still doesn't mean hes worked out how to operate the dishwasher or washing machine but anything he does is one thing less for me to do. Finding things surprisingly quiet with DD1 elsewhere but we'll be back to normal tonight. Have to cull several unwanted adolescent cockerels whilst at the farm collecting her which will need wedging into our already overfull freezer once I've spent an evening gutting and plucking. Just hope it stays dry so that I can do it outdoors because chicken innards reek.
Managed to get all the ironing done so am now killing time whilst they slumber on. Theres plenty I could do but it all seems to involve making a fair amount of noise and its just a bit too early for that, although since they managed to sleep through the crashes and bangs caused by an overexcited puppys tail as I harnessed her up for her walk they'd probably sleep through anything.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Surprise surprise yesterday went nothing like the vaguest of vague plans. OHs 30 minute meet and greet morphed into a leisurely lunch at the pub. DD2 and I spent a leisurely couple of hours riding the skyways (the highlight of her day), watching planes take off, land and taxi. Asking the sort of questions that only a 7 year old can ask with a straight face... best one of the day being the poor policeman who was asked if he had a really big truncheon (too many Noddy books me thinks).
After that we went for chip butties at the staff canteen where the novelty of having a child in the building meant she was treated like royalty and had a fab time. Then we went walkabout and played spot the trolley dolly, abandoned counting rabbits when we'd reached over 100 on a roundabout, ate lots of blackberries, attempted to identify lots of different hedgerow fruits, spotted a dozen different species of wild mushrooms and had a very long chat about the likelihood of a panda living at the airport because of the amount of bambo. We confused the heck of out one poor tourist with that one.
Came home via Decatholn where the sale was once again superb. Two pairs of trousers for DD2 reduced from £18 to £1 and a new pink school coat. Flew in the house, grabbed a coffe and went to collect DD1 eventually making it home at something approaching 9pm with three chickens to pluck and gut. Discovered a cabbage and a bag of beans on the doorstep. So thats tonights dinner sorted. Did mean I didn't get to bed until extremely late, plucking and gutting always takes longer when you're tired.
Yesterdays washing is still on the line. Hoping it'll finish drying this morning then I can start on DD1s camp stuff, although she doesn't appear to have worn much.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Nice bargain on the clothes. One of the things I really miss about the UK is being able to get clothes bargains like that. Here in NZ clothes are REALLY expensive both for children and adults, and the quality is pants too. I did stock up a bit when I came back last though.
Nice grab on the chickens, I guess I would do the gutting if they were free, but still a bit ewww.
Like the idea of the pup putting herself into punishment. I bet you had a hard time keeping a straight face though. I guess you are hoping she grows out of this stage fairly soon.

Gutting chooks with the assistance of the pup was just a bit infuriating. Much like an episode of The Muppet Show with the hungarian chef. CHicken comes out of bag by feet with head transported a tantalising 2' from the floor at the perfect level for puppy. Cue chooks head in pups mouth. Pup told "no" very firmly at which point head was dropped. Origami performed, head dangled off worktop, dogs jaws clamped around head. Dog growled at. Avalanche of feathers cascading from worktop much like a pillow fight. Dog spied with mouthful sneezing away, much spitting then followed as dog tried unsuccessfully to remopve feathers from her mouth. Kept her busy for ages. Of course she didn't want anyone to take her beloved feathers, nor did she want to keep them. Boiled the edible inards for the animals. The one eyed cat took one sniff and yowled for canned food, puppy then nicked her bowl complete with contents and legged it behind an armchair where she troughed the lot. Still finding feathers everywhere despite having vac'd, swept and mopped.
Chicken is now in slow cooker having steeped in red wine overnight. Two cakes are in oven and I'm about to start batch cooking sphag bol but have discovered we're out of onions.
Have ended up washing everything DD1 took as its all wet and horsey smelling.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Sat here randomly reading reviews on the River Cottage Handbooks. I really really really really want them all although I don't actually *need* any of them and could only justify half of them. Just thinking how cool it would be to go to the beach with Edible Seashore and come back with dinner. And the same for my many pootles in the woods with the hairballs with hedgerow and mushroom. Then I envisage myself skipping along with a wicker basket over my arm and a red cape on my way to Grandmas house and it all becomes a little bit too fairytale. Less time on the PC and more time doing would probably make more sense. Need to work on the book case though. Once I reach the point that the books are singly stacked so that only relevant stuff lives there then I may well treat myself. For now they're on my wish list ready for birthday time. Am tempted to move the cookery books to the shelf in the kitchen once I've decarped that. Would make more sense to have them handy.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

On my birthday list is the new one on Self Sufficiency by !!!!!! Strawbridge. I tell myself that it is only sensible to have an update as my other one is the John Seymour one from the Seventies but I live in a suburb of Leeds for heaven's sake.
Although I am planning on getting chickens next year.0 -
Moo, I've got some old long riding boots probably a size 1 or 2 not sure as the sizing has worn off. If interested let me know your addy and I'll post them on.
