Yesterday went from bad to worse and then got steadlily more dire with every passing minute. Recieved a text message from the illegal immigrant 20 minutes after she should have started work to say she had a temperature and wasn't coming in. Considering this was a day when the school was open to parents and one in which I had to populate a hall with chairs and do a gazillion other small things thatt he teachers had neglected to mention until the very last minute on top of attempting to leave early or at least on time this was not the best day to pick.
Finally ran in the door rather sweaty 15 minutes before I needed to be at DD1s new high school. Skipped dinner, grabbed a cuppa and left the house. Walked into high school just as the presentation was starting and endured an hours lecture on the correct wearing of the uniform before meeting Herr Fuhrer DD1s form teacher who was lucky not to be punched. Its been a long time since I've been spoken to like a naughty toddler, once OK but repeating himself five times was really not nescessary. I do now know that should I ever feel the need to contact the school it will be done before 9:30am by pressing 2 on the automated telephone system or alternatively I will correspond in writing on stationary (not lined papaer, or notebook paper or post it notes) in a sealed envelope (most definately not an unsealed envelope or no envelope at all) with a letter head and the date and a signature and I've even been furnished with a list of the correct forms of names to use. Meh. Was then made to sit and fill in an assortment of forms despite them stating please return with your child on Friday.
Discovered that DD1 can use the school bus to get to school on Friday but have to apply for a pass to then be rejected in order to appeal for a pass in order for her to use the school bus in Septemer. How complicated do these things need to be?
Purchased tie, calculator and apron but declined to purchase the rest of the uniform without DD1 being there to try it on. Have a huge list of things to get for the start of term ranging from the usual pens and pencils to cartridge paper for art lessons. Turns out she also needs summer and winter PE kits and indoor and outdoor PE shoes as well as astroturf boots and football studs. Even the sodding colour of the socks changes between the seasons.
Finally made it home at 10:30pm at which point I was too tired to care about eating and went to bed.
Have already downloaded and completed the bus application form. Figured I neeed to get that done before they shut for the holidays and I get the feeling its going to take quite some time to sort out. As an absolute worst case I can buy a bus pass for use on the school bus assuming there are surplus places on her route, but I can only do that after the appeal has been rejected. Talk about a total farce.
Plans for the day involve tracking down sew in labels for uniform. Need to go into school early to deal with the aftermath of yesterday and do all the things I didn't get round to doing last night whilst still managing to leave early to blow the cobwebs off in the woods with the hairballs and the dog walking wierdos. Also need to sit down and wade through the five booklets I was given last night and then figure out how the heck to perform the many pre-high school tasks included within which include visits to local and not so local historic sites of interest in preparation for the local history class. Poor DD1 will be shell shocked.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Name tags ordered. Even managed to find some with hot pink writing. Whether or not thats cool at high school is debatable but at least they'll be a bit more obvious on the changing room floor than the usual red ones. Glad DD1 wasn't around though as I had the option of adding horses to them. Whilst she'd love it I've a feeling she'd get ridiculed about it.
Have to give in and start the day although I'd rather just curl up under the duvet for another hour or so until I start to feel human.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Aaagh. Now wondering if I've sent the bus pass application to the wrong county. I need one for the county the school is in, not the one we live in. Bah. Bet I should have sent it to the council here for them to refer onwards. What a nightmare.
Got home too late to go walking with the park rangers which is probably just as well because I'm really not in the mood for being sociable. Could quite happily bite someones head off. Nothing seems to be even vaguely straight forward. DD1 is now starting to have wobblies about high school which is just great although I know where shes coming from. She'll be OK once shes got tomorrow over and done with. Think I'm getting more worked up about it than she is and thats making her nervous. Am paranoid that she'll be run over crossing the road to get the bus because the junction with the main road is truly awful featuring a blind bend and a 60 mph limit without pavement. I don't like crossing there when its quiet and rush hour is awful. Hoping she makes friends with someone who lives the other side of the main road so I can drop her off there in a morning.

What? They don't specify colour of ink? I think that's outrageous."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"

Perhaps he'd omitted that simply because he issued us all with matching black biros which he then instructed us to keep. The chap is clearly mildly obsessive but then I'm beginning to think ewveryone who works there is too. E-mailed the school office yesterday for a copy of the bus timetable as suggested by the head honchos underling. THe response from the same underling is to contact my LEA for the details which is not only uber helpful considering that they'd shut when the message was sent but also confirms I've sent the bus pass application to the wrong county. Bah. Alternative application form now filled in ready for posting. At worst we'll end up with two bus passes.
Have told DD1 to be at the bus stop for 8:15am just to be on the safe side. Word from the natives is no one recalls seeing the bus before 8:25 but thats several stops further down so we're being overly cautious. Further instructions involve much planning for the bus not showing up, departing before they get to the bus stop or worse still the bus driver refusing to let them on on account of them having neither bus passes nor uniform. Similar plans are in place for the end of the school day. Obviously last night was the night DD1s cast off mobile decided to play up. Will be replacing that in the v. near future. Will also be purchasing half the stationary aisle at Mr Ts and enough uniform to keep several people warm over the winter, although will be flouting the school requirements that she has an all black coat on account of how wandering the mile from the bus stop down a road with no street lighting or pavement wearing head to toe black is just plain stupid.
Plans for today are minimalistic and involve staying in areas of the school with mobile reception just in case. Need to fill in an invoice and drop this weekends jams off at a friends and then go rummage in the shed for OHs drill which he tidied away so well that he can't find it resulting in acall to me at work to see if it was there.
Am totally and utterly kettled. Was up until 11pm with DD1 and a gazillion random unanswerable questions. Ended up reading to her till she fell asleep which meant reading three quarters of a book. It was worth it just to shut her up and stop her appearing downstairs to ask yet another question. Will be glad when today is over!Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500
