What is it with men and B&Q? Not only is it a Sunday but its also a Bank Holiday and so OH has pootled off to the hallowed halls of the mans mans mecca in search of the stuff we need to finish laying the laminate flooring that we started laying several years ago. I would assume he intends to commence this this afternoon and extend into tomorrow having conveniently forgotten that my parents are coming for the day. Is a man ewith a functioning braincell too much to ask? Inceidentlly I should point out that I am ecstatic to see the back of the heinous flooring and will be eqully glad to have level flooring once again. Tis just the combination of wet self leveller, a demonic puppy, an insane kitten and my parents that concerns me, along with the small matter of moving shitloads of furniture and assorted detritus including the PC. Eeek. I will remain calm. Honestly.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Another awful nights sleep thanks to he who thinks it is normal to sermonise at midnight. Clearly yesterdays outburst was self inflicted on my part for rejecting his offer of another satnav (our third) and a new mobile phone (of his choosing). Surely at 35 and a quarter I'm old enough to decide what mobile phone I want and when I want it. Was accused of the usual tosh and then reminded that he respected me which seemed a v. odd thing to say in the circumstances. I mean if you respect someone you tend to allow them to remain asleep rather than waking them up to ramble on. Still one and a half bottles of wine and the remains of the brandy tends to have that effect on the boy.
Things are going to get more interesting still as it has been decreed that the laying of the laminate will commence today despite the arrival of my parents mid morning and OHs friend phoning to say hes bringing his girlfrind and another v. large dog to stay until thursday or possibly friday or perhaps even saturday. Yep no problem. I can magic five days worth of completely vegetarian egg free meals out of a hat at no notice. Actually thats not v. nice of me. I'm looking forward to seeing them all. Its the unpredictable side of OH post 7pm that I'm most bothered about, the rest I can cope with.
Plans for this morning involve a mahoosive furniture shuffle in order to cram the furniture from the room that we're replacing the flooring into another room whilst leaving available beds for 6 and seating for 8 free. Simples.
Am most thankful that I got off my backside yesterday and blitzed upstairs (apart from the bathroom) and the dining room. Even cleaned the mold off the ceiling. Still have an astronomical amount to do though. Although I did do all the ironing yesterday and I even dusted the telly box. Go me!Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

Moo let him carry on..DO NOT make excuses for his behaviour. It won't hurt for others to see how he acts.

What TDL said. I was about to say that you should step back and let your OH be himself. By doing that people will see what you are coping with and it may be a turning point for him. I know I keep banging on but in Sheila Hancock's book she describes exactly that kind of a situation as being the turning point. TDL, I love the word Cwtch and that fits so well for Moo right now so Cwtch from me too.
Also - please slow down, just reading what you do wears me outWe must arrange a meet up with the dogs as soon as I get my new car (sadly not the landrover that I am coveting)

We almost have a completely laminated floor. I say almost in that the unexpected discovery of another water main buried under the carpet delayed things quite considerably whilst we figured out whether or not it was still connected to the mains before removing it. The carpet covered up its considerable bulge whereas laminate wouldn't have done. Fortunately it turned out to be obsolete but left a crater requiring cement which along with another patch requiring self leveller meant we had to stop to allow this to set.
Feel pretty awful about ignoring my parents for most of their visit but granny had fab time with the DDs and kept us supplied with cups of tea and a small mountain of food that she'd brought with her. My dad joined in and had a great time even managing to persuade granny that she didn't want laminate in her bathroom. He's been itching to help out with the DIY since we moved in although theres never been the opportunity before.
OHs friends arrived just in time to help rehang the door. OHs friends grilfriend (the Frenchie) was muchly bemused by it all but coped very well with what can only be described as major scale carnage. Turns out shes a neat freak but thats come in very handy after the puppies shredded a bag of cement and smashed a glass topped standard lamp. Sadly the other hideous glass table lamp has refused to join in and join its friends in the great wheelie bin in the sky. Am slowly getting rid of more and more stuff though which is v. good.
Spent yesterday sales shopping in Chester in an attempt to show Le Frenchie some of the fabulous architecture. Instead discovered all manner of fetish shops have opened up whereby people pay to plonk there feet in someones previously used footbath in order to be gnawed by tropical sucker fish. Most odd is the fact that there were three of these shops in v. close proximity and people were queueing up to use them.
Eventually left with a pair of poodle slippers for DD1, an assortment of hardboiled sweets from the old fashioned sweet shop for Le Frenchie who had never seen one before, apparently France does not have such things. Also bought a berry sieve and a preserving spoon which was most restrained considering how many v. nice things were available at almost affordable prices in the Lakeland sale.
OH appears to be bahaving himself and even enjoyed his birthday despite the DDs forgetting to write his cards despite being reminded on several occassions. Ended up having lunch out and then getting take out for dinner ahving cleared up the trail of destruction caused by two puppies in a confined space with a bag of cement. Still the floor to puppy land is now v. clean.
Hoping to spend today at Erddig, the National Trust property in Wrexham where the boys and children can walk dogs in the grounds whilst Le Frenchie and I peruse the delights of the main house in peace. Turns out she likes all sorts of stuff like that but OHs friend doesn't and refuses to take her anywhere old. All men are gits it seems. Still shes lovely, much nicer than he makes out in fact.
They leave tonight after which hopefully we can finish laying the rest of the floor, put all the stuff away that needs to go away and dispose of lots of stuff that doesn't and then I really need to think about going to work for a quick check of the place if nothing else.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
That sounds like a hugely productive time, and also a bit of 'girlie'-type stuff which seems rare for you, given the usual exploits you entertain us with. I hope you're able to enjoy your new flooring and to encourage the other dodgy lamp into the whelie bin...Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0

Curious,
the bit about tropical fish nibbling the dead skin off your feet was recently shown in the kids programme 'Victorious' on Nickelodeon, turns out these tropical fish carry nasty vomiting disease0 -
I had a go on the nibbling fish pedicure thing when I was in Singapore, I really enjoyed it and found my feet were loads better after.
Knew nothing about the vomiting disease though :eek: might have put me off somewhat to say the least!!!!!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0
