    HAPPY NEW YEAR MOO.

Regarding the swede, mash it with carrots, lots of butter, black pepper and a drop of double cream, does make it quite nice and my DD will eat it like that.

Sounds great, apart from the butter and double cream, have a feeling that it won't taste all that fab when they are substituted with Rice Dream (a contradiction if ever I saw one) or the soya based alternative.

Wonder if I can find a recipe for swede cake after all both courgette and beetroot cake are better than expected.

    Happy Moo Year ;)

Sorry to hear that things with Mr Moo have been pants again. Hopefully this will all get sorted, but if he's this bad (again) how are the DDs taking it? Are they ok with his drinking/belittling of their (awesome) mum? I worry about the three of you :(

The little darlings are ignoring him. If he chooses to spoil their game, as happened last night, they merely leave him to it and go off and do something else. Its all very unnecessary and very childish of him.

Am managing to send them to bed before he gets too out of hand so they're avoiding the worst of it but thats one more thing which is not going to continue. They shouldn't be sent away from their dad and if they do need to be away from their dad then it needs to be further than the next floor of the house.

I'm taking the (insane) plunge into the Frugal Living Challenge again if you want to come and fail with me? :D

Theres no such word as fail. I may however find myself having considerably more year left than budget again. Still it can't be any worse than last year, its not like I'm going to blow two thirds of my entire budget on a car again, not two years in a row anyway.

Am struggling to come up with a realistic budget, stuff seems to be going up faster than my wage packet and its not like theres a vast potential for overtime, not when I find it hard to fit in the minimum hours most weeks as it is.

My budget of £8000 was totally ridiculous looking back on it. I think I just felt that as there's only two of us (plus the fatcats) I should have a small budget and there's people on the challenge who can manage on £2500 just for them.

This year I've upped the budget to £10,000 which will give me some wiggle-room and have allocated a much larger "Anything Else" budget in the hopes I'll be good. I'm having to be very strict today so I don't get bored and go online shopping :D

10 hours of completely undisturbed sleep later I feel like a completely different person. Gone is the fuzzy headed zombie feeling. Hopefully another few days of this and the giant black panda eyes will disappear and I'll look considerably younger too. I could pass for a 50 year old at the mo.

OH isn't doing quite as well. Hes still struggling to sleep, smoking twice as much but he did manage a second dry day although with an awful lot of difficulty. Hes already behaving differently though, even his sense of humor is returning. Its been an eternity since I've heard him laugh so this really was a welcome change.

Instead of his usual evening occupying sofa space whilst alternating between sulking and getting inebriated last night he managed to be rather helpful and even cleared the table after dinner so that the DDs could play games. Better still he tolerated a single game before making his excuses and doing a couple of awkward bits of flooring. This might not sound much but for us its humungous progress. 95% of the floor is now laid, we're just waiting for the last bit of cement to set as we've had to create a lip in order to build a step between the old house and the extension but didn't have anything to fix it to. Hopefully that will be sorted in the next few days and the remainder of the furniture can be returned to its rightful home.

So far the desk and the welsh dresser are in the right places which means I can spend today emptying boxes into them whilst chucking random dross. Hoping if I keep doing this we'll eventually get straight. Keep fiding stuff that OHs friends dog has damaged, its not funny, she might be a two year old but shes gouged chunks out of three doors, chewed trim on doors and even managed to scratch the glass on three windows and two doors. Its almost like shes allowed to do whatever she likes providing that she walks on a lead without trouble. Will be thinking twice next time he suggests bringing her.

Plans for today involve much tidying and putting away and considerably more chucking out. Found the bottom of the laundry basket yesterday but the DDs promptly filled it back up again so have at least one more load to go plus the remainder of yesterdays washing to dry before ironing anything that I can't get away with folding and hoping. Also need to get the DDs used to getting up a bit earlier as DD1 has taken to sleeping until 10:30. Think 6:30 is going to come as a bit of a shock on Tuesday.

In more mundane matters it appears that our total debt has decreased by a whopping 2K over the past 12 months. Depressingly carp. You'd have thought 12 months of operation stingy cow would have had more of an impact than that and in fairness it probably would have had it not been for the occassional random slurge, the car on the drive being the obvious example of this. Without the car we'd have cleared closer to 15K which is considerably more than the £750 a month I was hoping for. Still it does go to show that £750 a month is achievable but will mean two more sodding years of debt busting. The alternative is to hope that I can conjure up a budget that shows a surplus grand and a half a month ('scuse me whilst I roll around on the floor laughing) and attain the heady heights of debt freedom by next Christmas.

I have to admit to having almost completely stopped surveying. Firstly because its so chuffing boring but mostly because there aren't enough hours in my day however now the steady trickle of gift vouchers has dried up I'm having to part with cash for things which has reduced my frivolous spending quite considerably. Although it is rather nice to wander into a shop and splurge on something just for the heck of it. Although I did wander into the dross left after the first wave of Boots sale shoppers peruse the wierdities that occupied shelf space and then leave again empty handed. Of course that means I need to go back again at some point to purchase deodorant as we're on our last one which will be disasterous should OH go away with work because I've liberated it from his wash kit. Needs must and all that. Besides which I've got lots of points to use as a result of the pre-christmas points bonanza.

Hoping to venture out today to purchase bread and milk as well as return the surplus stuff to B&Q. Plus I feel the need to get out of the house for a bit even if it is just to a supermarket. Keep feeling the urge to investigate the Approved Foods website but have to remind myself that we simply don't eat that much junk and besides which some of the prices seem to be on a par with the major supermarkets without the delivery charge. I fear I'd end up with a 25kg box containing crisps, more crisps and even more crisps with a few savory rice things as endorsed by the bloke who does Ready, Steady, Cook just for a bit of variety. Do we need any of it? Nooooo. Well apart from the bread and milk that is.
